Don't worry - there will be an encore presentation coming to your town in the near future.

Ya got to admit that, if nothing else, this is pretty diverse (and oftentimes sick) group.

To bring the thread back on topic, did the OP ever get an answer about his side panels?

    Default safety

Its funny, I have a question on this RF98 Novak, then this post came up. When I first sat in the"new" car two days ago, a feeling of my body still being exposed, I look around the inside of the cockpit and notice a lack of panels by my legs and upper body. My question was about the legality of riveting or bolting panels for anti intrusion.

Are there any companies or individuals selling aluminum or composite side intrusion panels specifically for VD or will I have to make my own(which i dont prefer)

How much weight could this add to the car if done properly, any ideas, thanks

Juan, sounds fun, I have an rf98 in the shop that we could use as a starting point.

I have not checked back with Stohr on this but it sure looks that way (with Kevlar) when I look at my car.

Default Kevlar Confirmed on Stohr FB

I did confirm with Wayne Felch at Stohr that I have the Kevlar in there on the Stohr FB cockpit panels.

Sorry for the confusion but I'm good.

    Happy racing.

    Default Basalt fabric

The stuff is nearly as tough as Kevlar and relatively quite cheap. The FIA approves this material for F3 and other racing catagories. Are there alternative SCCA specs for Basalt as opposed to Kevlar? I can't find any...

The only specs I could find showed that it was pretty close in strength to S-glass, but no where could I find anything about its anti-ballistic properties, which is what you need for side panel use. Since it's elongation at breaking is less than that of S-glass, I would expect it to be somewhat brittle.
