    Default Pro Races

Yes F-1200 did run Pro Races in the past. However some drivers did not like the higher entry fees ( offset by our series sponsor at the time, ISSECO ) and poor pit allocation. Also, we would be 1st up in the morning and last up for the race. Some drivers with sponsor's liked being part of the Pro race, so when we stopped we lost our title sponsor and some drivers as well.
Good Luck to All in 2012.

Just on a side note about the pro races...John, that's true that it USED to be like that. I was looking into it on behalf of the club last year, and talking to Myles, they would honor us the same regular race weekend schedule (3 times on track saturday and sunday, including three races). We would also be fit into the schedule fairly, not at the beginning and end of the days. Just a little food for thought

Many times the vees end up as the last race without it being a pro race so I don't think that should stop us from looking at it.

If the plan is for the FTDA Championship to be run over six weekends and we elect to go to a Pro-weekend, this would mean dropping a CASC weekend and this would not help our case with CASC for getting dedicated races.

This was one of the reason the Pro-weekends were dropped in favour of the CASC weekends.

Nevertheless the CASCAR weekend was fun.

Technically it's still a club weekend, since the MCO is putting on the event.

The "Pro" events are when larger groups (IMSA/ALMS, NASCAR, Varac...) Or private promoters (Octane [Canadian GP], Green Savoree [Toronto Indy]...) pay for the track by day or weekend, then rent out smaller chunks of track time that they don't need for the big boys to play, to smaller car groups or series to run as well and add to the show, while getting some of their money back.

    Prize Money $$$$$$$$$

If there is 12 guys collectively spending a million dollars of their parent's money to try and win a share of a $20K purse ..... its Pro Racing.

If there is 20 guys spending their own money to win a trophy, its not!

I don't know what the procedure is for updating the F1200 website, but it has not been updated with the 2012 schedule. Is this right?

May 5/6 BEMC – Mosport International Raceway
May 26/27 DAC – Shannonville Motorsport Park
June 30/July 1 BARC – Mosport International Raceway
August 4/5 BARC – Mosport International Raceway
September 1/2 MCO – Calabogie Motorsport Park
    September 29/30 CASC/Mosport – Mosport International Raceway

    Hi there:

Here is the Winnipeg Sport Car Club schedule for the 2012 season (sanctioned by the Western Canada Motorsport Association - WCMA):

    Gimli Motorsport Park:
    Event 1 May 26 - 27
    Event 2 June 16 - 17
    Event 3 August 11 - 12
    Event 4 September 22 - 23
    Event 5 October 6 - 7

It's a fair drive for you Ontario guys but the club offers some compensation for out of province drivers.
Entry fee is $300 for the 2 days (Saturday/Sunday). We run 2 practices and 3 races per day (10 sessions total). Friday is a free practice day, you might be asked to pay a smallish fee for the track time.
There's space for free camping/motorhome parking at the track.

WCMA FV and F1200 technical rules are pretty much identical, no bulged intake manifolds, no fire suppressing system required, we even run the Falken tires (since you guys went to them after consulting us ).

Hope to see some of you guys at the GMP this summer.

    Jean

    Default Calabogie Weekend

FYI- This is going to be a very busy weekend.
A lot of Quebec series guys have comfirmed, including the Formula Tour group and a bunch of GT+G70 guys. Added to the Canadian Tire Cup semi-pro group; the paddock is going to be packed! They are already discussing putting teams out on some of the unused access roads. I'm going to try and stake out a spot for the f1200's with the organizers...but no promises.

Also...there is a new Flibre group being organized in the Ottawa area. They are organizing events in the Ottawa and Quebec area. They are going to have a run group during the IMSA weekend at Calabogie on Aug. 10-12. For $350 you get 3-30min. races + practice and qualifying. F1200's are welcome. Good chance to learn the track.

calabogie i find is by far the most difficult of the 3 layouts we run at to master. especially if its the full track....i'm no where close to knowing the secrets of that track.

the combination of multiple straights and the late apex nature of a lot of the corners penalizes your momentum heavily in our cars eating up a good lap time when you get it wrong.

The blackflies should be gone more or less by then... on the other hand, the bears may be out more, as it will be closer to winter

Although, I've been to the tracks multiple times and I've seen more wildlife at or around Mosport than I have yet to see at Calabogie

Getting back somewhat on topic, I was hoping to find a car, and try to get out to a few races this season to see if I can still do the wheel to wheel stuff before I invest tens of thousands into my project cars, but with work, I just don't have the time to properly maintain one to the high standards I'm used to.
