    Default Welcome to FTDA Forum!

I would like to welcome all to the Formula 1200 Drivers Association forum.

For those of you who don't know what Formula 1200 is, it is a Formula Vee equivalent series north of the border. The rules mimick those of SCCA Formula Vee, but with a few minor changes. The most significant change is the wheel and tire package. The series runs a spec 13" wheel with radial street tires, cutting the season long tire cost down to around $650 for the entire season.

The series consists of 6 weekends, with three 20 minute points paying races per weekend, traveling to Mosport, Shannonville, and Calabogie. The series averages 15-20 cars per weekend over the past three years.

If you have any questions about the series or the cars, feel free to visit www.formula1200.com or email pr@formula1200.com

It is great to see F1200 has a section on Apexspeed, hopefully this will open the formula to a wider audience and congratulations Michael Iamundi on winning his fourth consecutive championship.

Absolutely Guy, this is a big step in attempting to further improve the F1200 grid. Hopefully we will see you back on the grid next year.

Is there not a difference on the intake compared to the SCCA?

Essentially the FV and F1200 regulations are the same, but there are several minor differences and the inlet manifold is the most significant. The swelled manifolds are not legal in F1200.

Also, the minimum weight is 1075lbs, the 50lbs difference covers the increased wheel and tire weight.

CASC's GCR differs slightly from SCCA's, so there are some other regulation differences, for example fire systems are not mandatory in Ontario.

    Arm restraints aren't required either...

Great series with large fields of car counts in the high teens to low twenties consistanly.

Cars have their own track time, no sharing with FF's or others. Not having to worry about being dive bombed by FF's, F500's, FC's & others is a pleasant change & makes for safer races.

Much bigger fields then any of the SCCA club races I have been too.

If you are in the upper East Coast & are looking for good competitin on great tracks you should consider this series.

I hope many that stop by ask questions because I'm sure they will be answered by many current/past FTDA racers.

F1200 will start it's 32nd year in 2012. Don't know the date, but the first Monday in October, 1980, a handful of FV racers tested BFG TAs on 13" wheels at Shannonville. They became the spec tire for FV-Ontario in 1981, and evolved into F1200 by 1986. Unavailability of 13" tires prompted a wheel size change along the way, and Yokohama, Goodyear, and Kuhmo tires were spec'd at different times.

    Default blackhole

Yes we will be! With a different engine though!

We are making some mods to the steering shaft so the steering wheel will be up further and closer to me for better control. That was a nice feature on the BRD.

Overall the Blackhole handles well now with the suspension mods in the back. Coupled with a fast engine, I'm hoping it will do the trick!

I would like to thank Bill and Vallis Motorsport for their generosity and support! Your car made it possible for me to lead an F1200 race even though it was brief. I had great fun racing with Andrew, Michael, Phil, Steve, David, Spencer and the rest of the FTDA.

Thanks FTDA for a great season. THE BEST ORGANIZATION I HAVE EVER RACED WITH IN 19 YEARS OF RACING!

2012 will be a special year for myself I will be celebrating 20 years of racing!

    Have a good winter!!!
