I don't see any discussion of this, but the Nov Fastrack withdraws the 40 lb penalty recommendation. Thank you, CRB!

In response to all the debate on this forum about weight penalties, what constitutes a shifter under the rules (penalty), etc. We have made it real easy. The wording of our shifter rule will be changed to:
8.10.6.4: Shifting systems are unrestricted. Gear changes cannot be automatic.
I think that makes it perfectly clear. No weight penalties.
Anything and everything is allowed. If someone can come up with a better mousetrap, more power to them. This class was made for innovation. I don't see this as an added expense, since there are already several (Pro-Shift, Geartronics, etc.) shifter systems out there and in use. Some people are fine with pure mechanical and can shift them without problem and like the fact that there is less to go wrong, some like the full blown shifter systems, and some just like the no-lift shift option. All are fine in the Series and all are welcome, without any penalties.
"Gear changes cannot be automatic"
Serious question:
What are you trying to prevent (what is an automatic gear change)?
Always has to be one in the bunch.
Gear shifting systems are unrestricted. Period.
Clear enough?
I'm guessing he's trying to prevent a fully automatic shifting system. the beauty of a pro series is that it's basically up to him to look at anything and say ahh, ok that'll work or no way jose regardless of what the rules read. Beats the SCCA BS way of doing stuff, love it or not decisions will be made quickly.
Understood it to probably mean what you guessed. However, apparently we were both wrong.
Yes, decisions being made quickly can be a wonderful thing. However, if the decision maker/dictator is of the "ready, fire, aim" persuasion it can often times lead to issues. Especially in instances where they have strong skills at one task and should leave other tasks to those better suited.
We've already had numerous debates over shifting systems. The fact is all the systems available are legal in SCCA club racing. The only difference is that there seems a need by those in control of club racing to place a weight penalty on some of them.
To make tech an easier process for all involved (inspectors and teams), we are making our rule regarding shifter systems clearer.
No weight penalty and choose whatever system you want. Like I said before, some are fine with a mechanical shifter, some want a no-lift option and some want an all-out system like Pro-shift or Geartronics. It's your choice as to what you want.
