    Pru,
You can switch Eric and I to #30 so Jeff Gordon can run 44 when his Nascar schedule permits...

Default Add Me to the Active List

    Pru,

Count me in - RF92 #28. I’ve decided purchasing, caring for, and feeding an Arrow or Cardinal RG is too rich for the family budget with one child still in college. My wife is smiling again and suddenly feels the cost to finish the FF for CM is very reasonable. Do I update the very old Kent or send the car to Maryland for a Honda conversion?

I think you verified this before but that was you driving the Cosworth Vega in HS a few decades back at Nationals?

Thanks for getting me motivated again.

Happy to hear that we will be seeing you out again Craig. As for the engine stuff, that's a tough one. At this point, I would keep the Kent, but I do admit that the Honda would be a neat update!

Yes indeed, I co-drove Mel Kooiman's at the '92 Solo Nationals; great power plant in an ill-handling chassis!

actually, 189 is usually Yarko Petriw. I am assuming that Matt Lam was listed with that number at the Packwood national tour (which should have 5 cm cars next year!!!) but Yarko is my regular codriver.

On Thur eve I was a guest with Vic Sias, on a local cable access TV show where we were interviewed about autocross for 25 min. When the show gets posted, I will supply a link.
Vic, a national champion in SM for 3 yrs in the last decade, has an excellent memory for autox trivia. He remembered a couple, the Christmans, who drove a Tiga S2000 in CM. I remember the car, but it was before I paid attention to car classes. It did get me wondering why all the current CM cars are FFs. I did find that in 1999 a Tiga won CM at Nationals. I also found some Tigas for sale and with prices from $40K to $99K; I think I found the answer.

I made a mistake and confused at least one other person by saying that my Van Diemen is a "RR" model. It is an "RF" just like all the others.

Hey, I see I'm now on the list. Cool. I am finishing up some stuff needed to get the car ready, so I should be running our first event in Feb. If I can get the car working ok, SD Tour should be happening, too.
I will likely revert to my normal #7 and drop #78 on my car, Pru.

    Default 83 Van Dieman

I guess the secret is out. I have purchased Mike Droin '83 Van Dieman and will be running it in So Cal (mostly San Diego). First race will be in March under new numbers 68 & 681.
Modifications are almost complete. Completely cut off top forward bars and refab. to fit my larger frame (body) New steering hoop, new instrument panel, new forward cross bars, new radiator mounts, and re-constructed seat and battery location. No structural loss and no weight gain. Will fit 6'3 plus at 250-275 pds easily.

Looking forward to learning how to race it formally raced Factory Five Cobra.

    Dave Boles

PS. Can anyone tell me the best brand tire to run for autocross and who would be the best dealer?

    Dave,

    Welcome to CM!

Regarding brand of tire for CM. Unless folks are keeping a secret, the only real choice for autocrossing is Hoosier in the 25B compound. I think the current hot setup is the 7 inch FC size fronts and the normal FF cantilever rears.

Dealer? I'm sure there is someone in California. You might post on SCCAForums. I've used "Hoosier Tom" (Mid Atlantic Motorsports in Michigan). He used to have customers on the West Coast.

I'm about to get my first new set in 2 years since I'm retiring from work and plan on attending lots of events again for the first time in 10 years!!!!

My car is a '83 Van Dieman not '82 and my Co- Driver is Dave Boles Jr. (681)
The car was purchased from Mike Drouin, so he no longer owns a '83 Van Dieman.

    Default Active CM list change

    Pru,
I have purchased Craig Carr's '84 Van Diemen (same model I used to have).

I'm too lazy to change the numbers (besides, they look nice), so I will be running #91, and my son, Colin, will be running # 191. My daughter, Catherine Justiniano, will occasionally run CM / CML with # 191.

    Thanks,

    Eric,

More than anything, brain fade on my part...

That said, going into 2013, Nick and I had a standing agreement that it was Pete's seat until he passed on it. Pete's BFG commitments were such that running a Hoosier shod car was, hmm, not advisable to say the least. This, in turn, freed up the seat for Nick.

As for 2014, we'll see what shakes out. Nick really wants his own DB1/Fit, but I am thinking that purchase/build is a year or so out which means he'll likely want to defend in my car.
