    Default RFR F1000 Group buy

I'm working with Pat @ Cool Mat to have a heat shield made for my RFR.
This is the same material that I had custom made to my pattern on my last car, the Nova-Diemen.
The shields are dimpled inconnel, double sided, with a ceramic type woool mat between the layers. The corners are made with grommets installed so the thing can be ziptied/safety wired into place.
I want to see if at least 9 other RFR F1000 guys are interested.
I'll have final pricing when the deal gets further along, but standard pricing is about $1/sq inch, so hopefully she'll come back with a nice discount...

    Regards, GC

That stuff is amazing. You can practically have an O/A flame on one side of the shield and an infant on the other side without any damage.

I'll have the shield shape spec'd out within the next few days.
It should be roughly 22" tall x 18" wide or thereabouts (going from memory - which ain't what it used to be!), w/ grommets at specific locations to match good attach points on the RFR chassis.

I had this on my last car and it worked great, much MUCH better than any kind of gold or silver reflective film, due to it's close proximity to the exhaust head pipes.

Last I was quoted it was $1/sq in, so hoping to get a break on a 10 pc. order...

I agree with Josh. I think this is the perfect stuff to keep between your engine block and headers also. It keeps the header heat out of the engine and it keeps oil off of the headers if you shove a rod through the block. It is also tough enough to not get a hole punched in it if you shove a rod into it.

The F1000 series is requiring some kind of blanket between the block and headers and this is a great solution.

I thought last time I got some it was $1.40 /in^2, so even $1 sounds good.

oops, wrong Starke, forgot to logout.

Default obviously josh has the answer !!

If there was a gameshow about canadian culture or just about anything else idiotic.

    Josh you would win everytime.

The speed in which you hit buzzer to answer the question is so blazingly fast. you should share you "apex speed secrets" with your fellow gameshow competitors.

Yes, but 120 is only made 3-4 times per year, plus they had to scrap an entire batch a few months ago or so. 90 is available year round.

    Default Scuse Il retarde...

OK, spoke w/ Pat today and told her I had 9 other folks lined up for at least a 10 unit order.
    The size/shape I spec'd for the RFR is a 12"w x 22"h rectangle.
This shape will sit right down on the floor in front of the headers, tight against the rear framework of the chassis, and come up to about the top of the fuel cell enclosure / horizontal frame member.
Mounting metal grommets will be placed along the vertical edges at 8", 18", and 22", which will allow attachment to the RFR chassis bracing tubes behind the fuel cell enclosure.

Pat is as cool as the day is long and before I even asked about a group discount, she was already telling me we were gonna get one(!). She worked it out to $.70/square inch, retail is $1.11/sq inch. This comes out to $184.80 + shipping.
    Normal retail woulda been $293.

Here's a bit of a hitch - the guy (the one guy!) who does the fab work is in the hospital, and won't be out for probably 2 weeks, which puts it right before the RO's.
There might be enough time to get them done before RO's, just can't promise it.

However - she has on hand three (3) very similar sized shields already made up for a Ford GT application and will sell those for $160.
These are a tad bit shorter, w/ one side an inch higher than the other side, but can be bent/modded to fit.
I'm getting one of these shipped out tomorrow, leaving two more like this for sale.

To reitterate - this shield is designed to be placed in front of the headers, up against the chassis structure.

If anyone wants in on this group buy deal or onea the Ford GT shields, call Pat at 704 662-9099, and ask about the Glenn Cooper/RFR offer.

PS I am taking measurements tonight for a between the headers and engine, F1000 CS mandated for 2012, blown engine/oil fire preventer shhield.
Belling has been using a 10"x18" blanket kine deal, so it looks like it might just end up being that size.
I'll inquire as to getting something that is possibly preformed/bent, but I'm pretty sure that final fitment will be up to the installer!

Default Inconel heat / Scatter Shield

I have all the scan data from both the 07/08 and 09/10 GSXR1000 engine and I've made a Solid model of a heat / scatter shield which I plan to offer.

This shield will go between the engine and header pipes and will closely mirror the shape of the block.

In a few weeks I'm going to machine the press dies to make these.

I own a 200 ton 4 post press which will form these inconel sheets with little effort.

I'll keep everyone posted on what I come up with.

Default gary that sounds very appealing.

our current thermotec 10x18 mats have saved us from a fire from 3 engine failures since the start of FB racing in 2007 with FB.

your formed inconel sheet sounds great.. what expected weight have you solid modeled ?

Default Koolmat "heatmaster" and "zero clearance"

    FYI

Thanks Coop for the info on the material. I wish I had known about it in 1992. I've been buying and burning through an awful lot of the standard reflective coated "white" material over the headers on my VD RF-85 to protect the bodywork and the carb.

Here is the material that Coop is discussing.

    http://www.koolmat.com/heatmast.shtml

I bought a 14" by 14" piece as a "blanket" between the headers and the bodywork on my VD RF-85. I also got a roll of the zero clearance material for lining much of the inside of the tail.

    http://www.koolmat.com/zc.htm

Even without being part of a group buy you might get a break from the website prices if you talk nicely with Pat.

    An alternative:

Recently installed new heatshields between header and driver firewall using products from Heatshield Products.

    www.heatshieldproducts.com

Started with Heatshied Lava Mat size 24" x 24".....Made from crushed volcanic rock. Lava Mat™ withstands 1200°F direct continuous and 1800°F intermittent. This heat shield barrier cloth, can be used with less than 1” of airspace, 3/8” minimum is recommended. Cost $39.99. This was used as the first layer against the aluminum firewall that protects the fuel cell.

Then overlayed the Lava Mat with HeatShield Armor ...
    24" x 24" 1/2" thick.......Cost: $74.99
HP Armor can withstand 1800 F. continuous.

HP Armor can easily be used on flat surfaces or wrapped around components

Continuous operating temperature of 1800°F, 2200°F intermittent
    Reduces radiant heat by 60%
0.003” thick armor layers, can be cleaned after installation.

    Total Cost about $115.00
