Default Jay Novak: Motorcycle engines for use in F500

As many of you know I have been a member of the SCCA for 43 years. I have spent more than 25 years being directly involved with F500, driving, building cars, supporting the class in every way I can. Some of you may know that I am chairman of a committee that is composed of 8 members of the F500 community. Over the last 2 years we have tried very hard to put together a proposal to allow the use of 600cc 4 cylinder motorcycle engines as ALTERNATIVE engines for use in F500. The goal of this proposal is to get this great class on a growth path that will lead to higher participation and to bring in the younger racers who want low cost racing.

We have provided the CRB with tons of documentation, dyno data, track results etc. The CRB has VERY carefully reviewed our information and has recommended to the BOD that they approve the proposal at the October BOD meeting.

Here is a link to the actual proposal that was published in the August Fastrack.

I am asking each of you to read the proposal. I know that you will find that the proposal has a ton of merit and should be approved by the BOD. I know that all of us love racing and want the SCCA to grow and to bring in some new younger racers. F500 if it becomes more mainstream with the inclusion of motorcycle engines will draw lots of new racers to the club. I can tell you for a certainty that you cannot go faster for less $$$ than F500 and this will only get better if the MC engine proposal is approved.

If anyone has any questions or wants to discuss this please send me an email of give me a call.

In the end please take a few minutes of your time and write a letter to the CRB & the BOD in support of the motorcycle engine proposal for F500. Go ahead and make my day!

Your letters can be sent to: bod@scca.com or use the CRB link at: www.crbscca.com

    Thanks a ton,

    Jay Novak

    Default New Proposal

Many of those who sent letters of support into the CRB a year ago think that that is all that is needed. NOT!

This proposal is considered a new proposal as there has been some rewording.

Please send in new letters to support the new proposal.

    Thanks ... Jay Novak

I am not an SCCA member so I can not vote. I can say however if it is approved I would rejoin the club and buy one of these cars.

    Default F600

The CRB thanks the many members who submitted input on this item. The CRB supports the concept of a class for a
small formula car with a 600cc motorcycle engine, but not as a part of the existing F500 class. The CRB will recommend adoption of an F600 class based on F500 chassis construction rules using 600cc motorcycle engines. Initially, this would be a Regional only class that could become a National class by meeting the requirements of 9.1.13.C. The recommended rules will be those submitted in letter #5202 with 32mm individual intake port restrictors.

I'm not sure how this is going to work out when the BOD rules on this in October. We were told from day one, no new classes and now the CRB is recommending a new class. I have no idea what the BOD is going to make of this.
