    Default CM at Solo Nationals

Where is everyone?!? I'm going to tow 1600 miles to get there and I want a big party!

I see 12 registered today with Jim Garry making 13 (registered in D Mod currently). That is only good for four trophies. The more, the merrier so sign up today! (And late fees start sometime tomorrow.)

OK... one day later I see 16 +1 in open class and 1 in ladies. That looks much better than yesterday's total.

I'm looking forward to this. I have been since I walked grid last year.

Disappointing, I thought we would break 20 easy this year w/ all the new owners and by the size of the Toledo Tour alone.

I was hoping the same thing, Pete. Unfortunately Ben and I are not going to be of any help. He just landed a new gig in Seattle and will not make it. I'm also probably not going to make it.

    2011 Solo Nationals CM Entry

Like others have noted, interest in CM as well as the number of new CM owners/drivers is on the rise which makes this year's entry a bit of surprise. I was expecting 20+ cars.

I'm not making it with the new car this year either, but hopefully next year!

Brent Cary and Steve Geiger won't be making it - Brent broke his knee pretty badly a few weeks ago.

I've wondered where Brent and Steve have been...

In my mind I've somewhat anticipated 2011 as a building year. Guys buying cars, but just not quite ready to make the trek to nationals. Mark and I likely will have both cars out next year..

I was in the "just bought" club last year, so I can appreciate the situation. On the other hand, I had hoped that more of the folks in the Central time zone would make the trip to Nationals even in their first year of ownership. If I hadn't had a sorted ride last year, I probably would have brought the Ford just to run something and have fun.

2012 is my goal to return to Nationals for the first time since 2001.

FYI. I bought my car in summer 91 and started running it locally in 92 after a full ground up. First Nationals in it was 93. Repeating the process this year with a "partial ground up" and local events.

Hopefully Joey and I will be there next year with the VD. I'm working on putting the car back together after a disastrous start with the car. The engine should be should be completed shortly, then we'll start sorting.

Nothing exciting. A minor cascade of failures on a 27 year old race car, actually. First I obliterated my rr wheel hub at Divisional t and t. Got it fixed same day. Next day the car developed a starting issue.. had the starter rebuilt and the cracked adaptor repaired, took a good look at the FW and decided it needed a ring gear, so the rear of the car comes off to r and r the fw and I found more cracked stuff. Got the ear on the right side of the block repaird. I hope to receive my new ring gear on monday so we can get it all back together for our last Indy region points event on sunday the 11th.

Oh yes, I also discovered that my motorola distributor has the wrong cap on it and the cap will move around quite a bit, so I located a good used Bosch which I will be fitting to the car. I also had a leak down test performed and my "weak" cylinder and the other three all pass with flying colors so the dark plug was apparentley spark related.
My main question about the motorola distributor is how the heck would the car have run at all with that much slop in the distributor cap? The Bosch will be fitted with a 6700 rpm rev limiting rotor too.

Taking the car apart all by myself was a bit daunting before I dove into it but once rolling it all was pretty straighforward. I am getting to know the car a lot better and am making a list of winter mods to lighten it and improve anything I can.

I am hoping to get it all together and give the other INdy region guys a run for it in our last event! (fat chance!).

Tom, sounds like really great progress! Like you say, once you get rolling with a teardown it really isn't all that frightening.

I know you had to be upset about not making it to nationals. I hope to see you next weekend!
