Default Summit Point results race 5&6

FRCCA Race 5&6 June 25/26 Summit Point Main Track

Once again the FRCCA took to the main track at Summit Point, WV in force. With their long time partner the Woodbridge Cart Club for an all open wheel weekend!

The weather was spectacular all weekend and the beginners took to the track for 15 min of practice, followed by all the FRCCA Formula cars for a 45 minute practice. This newer format allowed everyone ample time to test and make changes and was followed by a timed practice, a pole sprint race, a Qualifier race and a full 20 lap race for each class! Sunday was one time shorter that allowed everyone ample time to make the adjustments they needed and still be on the road for the trip home (although 81 north was an adventure). Bob McCown made an appearance but was sidelined early with engine trouble.

Saturday the TYRO class took to the track and with CJ Rachuba starting on the pole for the Pole Sprint, with Glen Wakefield second, John Caporaso third and Wayne Taparoski 4th, followed by Jim Granitski in FV. Kristopher Vitale showed up and the race was on. Jim passed several cars and the finish for the Pole sprint. In the Championship Point Race (CPR) CJ Rachuba led the entire race, Glen Wakefield got by John C. and held him off until lap 4 when Glen lost control going through 4 and tagged the tire wall. Jim Granitzki got by John C. but had to pit on lap 5. The race ended with CJ 1st, Wayne 2nd and John 3rd.

The FS or F1600 class Bill Carroll started on the pole and won the pole sprint, followed by Jay Hoogendorn, Greg Saunders, Jack Donahue, Mike Kenny, Chris Rachuba, Dan Finnochiaro in CF and Anthony Caracappa. Mike Kenny finished second with Chris R., Jack, D., Greg S., Jay H., and Aonthony C. For the CPR Bill got the pole and stayed in the lead, he was chased by Jack D. who finished 2nd and Mike 3rd, then Jay, Greg and Chris finished out the field. Ian Goddard won CF over Dan F.

The Wings had a bigger field this race with Jim Adelberg winning the pole, Ryan Smith, Andy Graham, Jason Esterly and rounding out the field was Terry Vesper who is back racing with us again! Jim won with Andy chasing in second, Ryan and Terry.

The Pro Avanti race was set to be one of the best with Andy and Dominick bringing thier battle from Beaver Run and plenty of good cars and drivers showing up. Dominick started on the pole and Andy second then Kirk Davis, Dan Clark and Andrew Stoeckert. This was a most unusual race for P/A, it started out great with Dominick leading but Andy quickly slowed with a power issue leaving the track on lap 5, Kirk Davis got the lead from Dominick on lap 5 as Andrew pulled off with a clutch problem. Dominick passed Kirk back on lap 5 and held the lead. Dan got by Kirk on lap 9and passed Dominick on lap 12 Kirk got by Dominick on lap 14 and Dominick pitted the next time by with engine problems. Kirk got by Dan on lap 16 but pitted the next lap giving the lead to Dan who finished the race solo and won.

Sunday the sun came up and it was hot again, the Tyros started with Theo, CJ and Jim G. in FV and the pole sprint ended in the same order. The CPR ran about the same with Theo taking the win, CJ second and Jim third overall in his FV.

FS 1600 Bill started on the pole with Mike then Jay, Greg, Jack, Ralph in his CF and Roberto Hertel rounding out the field. Jack got by Jay on lap 3 and Greg on lap 4
Greg got by Jay on lap 1 setting the stage for a great lineup
. In the CPR Greg bot by Jack on lap 2Roberto got by Ralph on lap 3. Jack got back by Greg on lap 5 only to be passed on lap 6. With the field ending up with Bill for the win, Mike 2nd, Greg 3rd, Jack 4th, Roberto 5th

Ian Goddard won CF over Ralph.

In Wings Ryan Smith started on the pole and won, Terry started 2nd and held off Jason Esterly started 3rd and took that position and Andy stared 4th but pitted on lap one with a shifter problem, coming back out 6 laps down.

Great Weekend and great racing! Anyone who wasn't there missed out. I see a great future for the FRCCA.
Better to have raced for a day...
than been a spectator for life!

Thanks John for another great weekend.

Looking forward to NJMP on Jul 30. Wing turnout should be good. Last year, if my memory serves me correctly, we had 3 F1000's (1 PM, 2 Stohr) plus 9 FCs. Also 2 Brabhams in our group added to the fun.
