Default Hoosier Tire US Fomula First Rounds 7-8 - Road America

I've been speaking with the powers that be on the Road America race in August. They are telling me that if we can get 12 cars in FST they will give us split starts.

How many people are pretty sure they can commit to Road America?

I'll up date as info comes in

    Committed so far . . . . .

    1) Bob Stack
    2) Doug Seim
    3) Dave Dawson
    4) Robert Clark
    5) Bill Bonow
    6) Butch Deer
    7) Jim Nash

    We're getting closer!

I think we'll have 3 for sure and if hell freezes over, Carl will make it 4

    1. Bill Bonow
    2. Butch Deer
    3. Brian Finegan
    4. Carl Middelegge

If Carl can't/won't come, we need to fill his seat with a guest driver/renter.Perhaps a Jim Roemer or a Bruce Lindstrand?

    That's 8 so far

shouldbe a standard SCCA regional race - 10 laps / 40 miles I think is the norm at RA

    CORRECTION - 12 laps - 48 miles.

Depending on the date and if they'll accept my Midwestern Council license, and either my car is ready or I can rent one, I might be able to make it (but don't pencil me in yet).

Default US Fomula First Rounds 7-8 - Road America - Rental

    Hey

I just wanted to inform everyone, due to some recent unexpected events I will not be attending the RA Regional. However, if anyone is interested or hears of someone interested the FST is for rent. Please feel free to let me or even Bill Bonow know if anyone is interested. Its been out once this year at Blackhawk and it would be the car Bill drove last year, the white Evolution.

Thanks and sorry to miss this, I really am.

Lance - I think Mike Gwizdek looked into that and SCCA will not allow you to race under a MC license. Mike missed driver's school in April and was thinking about the MC school in July, but apparently it will not help with the SCCA races.

Now if you can convince them otherwise, then we might be able to get you AND Mike out there.

SCCA will accept a MC full comp license for a regional race entry. I think the problem may have been trying to enter with another club's provisional license.

are you sure about that? How many races does someone have to run under the provisional to be granted a full MC license? This could make a big difference to a couple local guys.

    EDIT

I just confirmed that info - sorry for doubting you Matt! That's exactly correct - you can race SCCA regionals on a Full Midwest Council license.

Lance and Mike - get to that school July 9th!

    Bob,

Are you sure about the correction on the number of laps at Road America ? you said 10 then changed to 12...this makes a big differnece to us 4 gallon fuelers....its a case of entry or not......I have heard that there are some F1 refueling rigs hanging around on apex for sale as another option

I'm pretty sure I have the same issue as Steve and Reece.

I'll have to go back and look at my notes, but I don't think I am getting good enough fuel mileage to complete 12 laps at Road America. Not with my 4gal cell.

    Hmmm...

    Default Rain on your Parade...

    Jason/Reece & Steve

I don't want to rain on your parade but Road America at 12 laps is ~48.5miles

Keep in mind if you planning to go the ARRC, Road Atlanta is 20 laps of 2.54 circuit ~50miles - now we only got in 19 last year and had a pace car but......

So might be time to try and squeeze some more juice into the cars - either that or just drive slower

I see no reason that we can't request the race be one lap less. Certainly more can enter.

It just needs to be our group.

    Default Kettle Moraine Regional

Back in the good old days with the Committee Car, it had a standard Lynx B cell (4 gallons). We entered and raced the Kettle Moraine Regional at Road America a couple times and once with Guy Bellingham (always run at National length, 12 laps) and the car could (but not always) sputter on the last lap, but it always finished. The problem is the car will use up right at 3.5+ gallons and g-loading through the carousel on the last lap could (or could not) give you issues. If you could put on an extra long fuel cell filler neck (or something) it would be fine. You'll only need about a pint extra to be OK.

Do the old Smokey Yunick trick, put about 10' of large diameter fuel hose pre fuel pump. That will hold a fair amount of extra fuel

    Default Here's the Deal

    Hey Guys:

I had a really nice chat with Kevin Coulter (Chicago Region SCCA - they are running the RA race) on Sunday at the VERY RAINY June Sprints.

    Here's what we have:

    1) As long as we have 12 cars we WILL get a split start - however if there are any FVs they will be with us. The FF. CFf and (if any) F500s will be in the first pack and we will be in the second pack.

    2) The race will be 12 laps. Kevin points out a couple things. 1 - if there are any F500's we will be lapped, meanign of course that in effect we still get an 11 lap race. Or, if there's a full course yellow that might save some fuel. As Bill pointed out - might be as simple as an extra long fuel line and making sure your tank is filled to the brim. Also - see (#3) below.

    3) If we get the 12 cars, Kevin will also reserve the first three paddock rows closest to the entry to the false grid for us, so in addition to having a large FST "Compound" we would have a very short distance to the false grid, which might just save the few extra ounces of fuel that we need.

This is a great opportunity to showcase FST - not just on track but off.

I need to tell Kevin as soon as possible (ie. within a few days) if we have the commitments (barring unforeseen circumstances) for 12 cars at RA.

Last count was at 7 - can we get any more commitments?

I'll see if I can install a -12 fuel line, and stay in the draft the entire time.

Default Get off that fence and join in

FYI, the June Sprints (2 days ago) was 13 laps and all but the lead FV's got lapped twice! That means for rounds 7 & 8, it is possible that with a good sized split start, the race would very possibly be only 10 laps. 100% no FST will get more than 11 laps.

I think it would be a very wise move (politically) to have a strong showing at Road America.

Come on Jason, you will not regret your decision to run. I'll be in arm bending mode in about 4 days

For those that are traveling, I've confirmed that we will be Race Group 2 so we should be able to get on the road relatively early on Sunday

Here's the count as far as I know:

    1) Bob Stack
    2) Doug Seim
    3) Dave Dawson
    4) Robert Clark
    5) Bill Bonow
    6) Butch Deer
    7) Jim Nash
    8) Reece Everade
    9) Jason Steeb - (90%)
    10) Sam F.
    11) Dave Blevins

Robert - can we get George to come in? Who else? We need to get to 12!!!!! Even if they are 90%ers

    Thanks

This just in from the Chicaho Region:

    Good evening,

We have sanction approval for the Kettle. The schedule, etc is as we’ve discussed, and the full entry package is now available at
http://www.cendiv-scca.org/. I’m copying JoAnne Jensen, who will be the Chief Steward for the weekend, on this email.

We are planning on opening on line registration on Monday or Tuesday, I’ll post to apexspeed the tinyurl link when its up.

A note on the reserved paddock. In the supps, we have the words “Competition paddock rows 10, 11, and 12 are reserved for Formula First (FST) competitors only. These are the 3 rows of the competition paddock closes to the grid marshaling lane.”

Like when we had the old East/West challenge running at the kettle, we have that verbage in the supps, but it is up to the FST committee to rope it off if desired, etc. We simply do not have the staffing to do that (I’ve tried, and failed miserably).. Obviously, if someone decides to completely ignore the supps are park a 53 ft semi across your area that is not part of your group, if the kind/gentle way doesn’t work, please come find JoAnne or myself and we’ll take care of it. (yes, that happened in the EWC days as well).

Finally, we also ask that your competitors park in the grass keeping the pavement clear for emergency vehicles, etc. How you arrange yourselves on the grassy areas is up to you.

If you have any questions, please let me know.

    Thanks,
    Kevin

We are very lucky that we are getting a reserved paddock area for FST. I'll make my best effort to get there early on Friday to cordon off the area.

As they say in Chicago - Enter Early and Often!

As noted there, currently planning on opening at noon on Monday, if I can finish setting up the registration form in time (which shouldn't be a problem).

FYI - we will have a split start for our races.

FF/CFF will be the front of the start, FST/FV and F500 will be the back half. Given the regional participation of FV's recently, it's pretty unlikely that there will be many, if any at all.

Also, we are Group 2 so those who are traveling should be able to get on the road at a reasonable time on Sunday.
