If all you saw was the brass as you described, you should be fine. The filter captured it. It is always a crap shoot, but I doubt you have any bearing issues. Make sure you hear no odd noises and that the warm oil pressue is good. Make sure your distributor issue is fixed and that the timing advance works and you have no more than 1 or 2 deg of fluttter.

thank you Jim - that would be really great news! We'll see what the guy has to say when he looks at the oil and filter etc and looks down into the distributor "hole" to fix the shim issue.

I will be the second car from SR. Really looking forward to finally running a step up from Vee. Its just too bad the wait is 2 and half weeks.

Ryan, I doubt that anyone from the Chief Steward to a corner worker would have any problem at all with you interviewing them. Just ask. They would be happy to work with you. You might want to ask about a visit to Timing and Scoring during the breaks also. You might find that interesting.

Default Help wanted--Executive Position

As most of you will soon be discovering Jason Steeb is doing a great job coordinating our races at Waterford in two weeks. We always ask one member to represent, coordinate and act as liaison with the race organizers. We have appointed FFDA members for every race except Mid Ohio.

So we need someone to step up and do this vital task and clearly the need is there and the time is now. For a full job description e-mail or send me a PM.

While this is not a trivial job, it’s not like you’ll be asked to be Rep Weiner’s PR person. So if you think you can do this let me know ---but time is important.

FYI Bob Stack is taking care of RA and is already working hard. Dave Dawson and I and performing team duty for Grattan and Rich Johnson has volunteered for Atlanta.

Default License requirments for Waterford

I went to sign up for the Waterford race, which would be the first race I have ever signed up for, and I found my choice would be to pick "Guests with Valid Competition License" My question is since I am still on an SCCA provisional license and not a full-fledged Competition License am I eligible for the WHRRI event

I am truly hoping the answer is a YES!

If the answer is yes with the SCCA take my WHRRI races for my 2 races to convert to my regional license?

Question about the schedule...

When do we think we will race on Sunday? I see we are in group 2 from the website but I have also seen that we will run as a stand alone group "Sunday Evening".

What time do we think we'll be done Sunday? If this is still up in the air, I would vote for joining a few other cars and racing earlier if given the option.

The weekend usually runs as follows for Group 2.

Sat
~10:30 quali
~12:30 - 1:00 Class Race
~5:00 - for the standalone FST race

Sun
~11:00 Class Race
~1:00 - 1:30 Feature Race
~5:00 - for the standalone

Waterford doesn't go by a set time table. More each sessions' run time is defined and the schedule works to that accordingly. One thing that is definite is that the track can't go hot until 10am and must be cold by 6pm, so no racing after 6pm.

Thanks Bill for the reply. Maybe what I am actually looking for is a confirmation that the FST series is indeed doing the 5PM Sunday stand alone race.

Real life beckons Monday morning and the 12+ hour drive looms large.

Hi guys...

Sorry I haven't posted any updates, I was trying to wait until I had 100% confirmation.

Regarding our Sunday schedule. I am about 80% sure we will get an earlier series race on Sunday. I am targeting the first session after the lunch break. That should put it sometime around 1PM.

If we get our way, the Sunday schedule will look like this:
~10:30 - Qualifying Race
~12:45 - Formula First Series Points Race #2 (qual postion set by time from qual race)
~3:15 - Optional Waterford Hills Feature Race

I will post to APEX as soon as I have 100% confirmation from the track officials.

Default WOO-WOO!

Thanks, Steve and Reece. I think you'll have fun. I've now lost count of how many cars that makes but it IS making our job lobbying with the Waterford Board's a bit easier. And thank-you to the Formula First Group for helping us sort out some issues BEFORE you arrive at Registration. Good bunch of people!
Jason's post is spot-on, right now it is at least 80% sure our Showcase race will be the first race after lunch so folks that want to can start the journey home early. There should be another race later in the afternoon for those who need EVEN MORE FUN!

Thanks for rallying around this event...

Just wanted to make a note about paddock rules and registration at Waterford. This is all found on the website.
Waterford has reserved paddock spots, meaning people have paid an annual fee for a particular spot. There is a paddock map on the website or at the bottom of the tower.

Registration is in the tower Friday night and Saturday morning. This means you can get your spot before registering. (Basically drive in and register after)
Tech is under the viewing tower next to the kids playground.
One pit vehicle per car. So you can have an enclosed trailer or support vehicle, but not both unless you have more than one car.
If you have crew arriving after the driver you need to bring tickets to the front gate otherwise they can register with the driver.
Top two drivers are required to go to tech after each race.
Waterford has free wi-fi so bring your laptops to update apexspeed. : )

Waterford is a busy track with not much of a straight away. It can be physically demanding, but the races are a little shorter.

Good luck guys, I will be there in my vee as well as Dave Jr and Dave Sr in Vees. Stop by and say hello.

Default Paddock....

Hi guys...

To build on Chris's point about the reserved paddock spots... Do not fear, we are working on it. A lot of the FST rigs I am familiar with would not fit a "standard" Waterford paddock spot. My hope is that we find a nice safe home for the SR rig, and then paddock the rest of us around that general area.

The Waterford folks have been very welcoming thus far, and I have few loose ends to tie up (paddock stuff being one of them).

My hope is that by the end of the weekend, I can post a marked up paddock map showing where we will be. Plus, my dad and I will be there all day Friday to direct traffic.

A couple more notes about the paddock (subtle differences between most tracks and Waterford).
• Each paddock spot has access to electrical plug-ins.
• No golf carts, ATV's, bikes, or mopeds are allowed (Small enough to not matter).
• 1 support vehicle is allowed per entry. that's usually your trailer.
• There is a hose and compressed air inside the paddock.
• There is a concession stand inside the paddock
• All paddock roads are paved, and most spots are grass.
• There are showers, a changing room, and bathrooms in the paddock.
• You may sleep in your camper or trailer.
• You can see the entire track from a couple different spectator areas inside or outside the paddock. It's a great track for your family and friends!
• To get them in...it's $5 at the paddock gate. They will need to tell the front gate they are "crew".

More to come. I apologize again for the tentative information, but I don't want to post anything positive until I am certain the club and myself are on the same page.

Should be a great event! I'm looking forward to it!

PS...here is a quick pic/map to make it easier...

~10:30 - Qualifying "Race" - Lap time will set grid for Series Race
~12:45 - US Hoosier Tire Formula First Series Race #4 - 15 laps
~3:15 - Waterford Hills Feature Race - Optional for those who haven't had enough fun!

Ok guys... no excuses.

Thanks again to anybody lurking from Waterford Hills. This should be a great event for Waterford and Formula First!

Will post Paddock info when I have it.

Cheers!
