I saw the red bodied car run at Mid-Ohio that year. I love the old air tank sitting next to the car and the how it is just sitting in the grass with all the street vehicles parked nearby. A far cry from today. I have seen those F5000 cars towed on open trailers as well back in the day.

I'd give my eye teeth for that car. I wonder what it will go for? The restoration cost would be staggering though.

Resto may not be as staggering as first appears.

1. SBC (small block chevy) parts are cheaper than 1600 Kent parts. Tons of folks can do the engine work. You can now make equivalent HP with far less strain.
2. Much of the hardware back then was made up of pieces off the shelf, or easily machined.
3. No expensive composites.
4. No tricky electronics that would be hard to find. mechanical gauges, toggle switches, and a coil.

It probably would go cheaper if it were in a barn in Iowa, instead of Modesto CA.

Went to my first F5000 in 1971 upon my return from RVN: the L&M GP at Donneybrook, and I've been screwed up since.

But everything on it is bound to be rusted or corroded beyond safe use.

New tub at the very least.

Aluminuim and the damp air do not mix well at all.

Small bits and pieces WOULD be relatively cheap and SBC parts are a dime a dozen as the wise frog so stated.

But the rest will be a mint.

Like they say, "If you want to piss with the big dogs, make sure you can lift your leg high enough. Again, check this out!!

But I'm sure this is a $15K deal just for the monocoque alone. And then the ancillaries. How about the corrosion in and on the MacKay etc.

Spendy, but I'd sell everything I owned to have this. Just not enough time.

Restoration, done properly, on that beastie will easily be north of $100k.

Without a data plate, and all of the structural questions marks regarding the the bolt-ons, you could buy this. Moreover, asking $159k and getting 'X' amount in cash are two different things in light of the economy.

But from my chair here, this is the most beautiful car on the planet in F-5000 configuration. It would be a labor of love, and a panic to drive.

I can't imagine spending that kind of money on a car without the identaplate. But that's just me.
