All are with driver, based on minimum weights and published horsepower ranges.

    SCCA DSR = 4.4 lbs/hp

An SCCA Turbo DSR has the potential to be 3.5 lbs/hp

The best Atlantics have more than "published" HP.....

It's not like any of this should suprise anyone that knows even the slightest bit about these classes.

It's also not a surprise that the best racing in America is in the two classes listed last on that list.

The list was made up of open wheel cars not sports racers. The Atlantics stats were from those in the pro Series back when there was one.

    Simply just a comparison.

    Excellent. Thanks Kevin.

Is that with Driver? Aren't all minimum weights the same in FA Club?

with driver. weights range from 1230 - 1305 ( well not including anything in the new charts since they got their balls cut off )depending on chassis, gearbox, and EFI or not. I used 1255 which is carbon tub and carbs and 1305 which is carbon tub, sequential box, and efi for my numbers

    Hey Kevin,

Are you allowing 265hp for a top 4age.....with little peak hp difference between EFI and carbs ?

I used the 265 we had at the 03 Runoffs. Same motor just dynoed at 265 on different dyno before this past years runoffs. It was injected.

Who was the builder and was it a big or small port head?

The published power for the Mazda/Cosworth 2.3 liter pro Atlantic motor was 280 to 300 hp depending on where you looked. They lapped Road America in the 1:58s, while I believe the FB track record is around 2:08.

I think you should include MTBF and rebuild cost in that table.

    Hey Nathan,

I'm sure we were referring to the 1600 cc FA cars.....not the 2.3Mazda MZR Swift016. The pro version of the Swift 016 ended up a little north of 300hp at a much heavier weight, but in resticted club form is probably around 260 hp at best....still at a heavier weight by th Gomberg, er Club Engine Rules table.

    Clear as mud ??

    Bill:

I was going way back in the thread (sorry!) where Jon Lewis said the Formula Atlantic power/weight ratio was based on the pro cars:

Just wanted to correct his numbers, where he mistakenly claims that F1000 cars have a better power/weight ratio than pro Formula Atlantics. 1418 lbs/300 hp (conservatively) is 4.7 lbs/hp.

I stand corrected. I was getting my information as follows:

280 HP - 1,418 weight. If this information is not correct than my calculations are wrong

Thanks to the constant pursuit of power by the Nascar teams one of those can be had for less than 20K with completely new internals. I used one engine last year for the first 6 races, and it still dynoed within 10 HP when we took it out.

However, I do miss open wheel racing, and am VERY interested in the F1K thing. Think I'm too old (42) fat (210), and slow?????

Okay, you win, but someone needs to buy a sprint car and then post in this thread.

Had some of those when I lived in Indy,

At that time, 800 HP in about 1450 pounds. 1.81

The newer stuff I'm sure is 900 HP, and the cars are about 100 pounds lighter depending on the rules.

Most difficult to drive/ride?? An ice racing snowmobile, 125 HP, 375 pounds.
Makes the Indycar at 220 seem really easy, believe me.
