    Default Pre oiling engine that has been stored

    I have a FV engine that has sat for a while (about 1 year). It has been in cool storage and all ports were closed and sealed. It has been run before, not a newly rebuilt motor. What is the best way to pre-oil it before starting it? Just want to make sure oil is on bearing, cylinders etc. The engine has full-flow ports and external oil cooler so there are several places to "push" oil thru the engine beside the sump. Thanks.

    cheap and easy way - get a nice old pressure cooker from a junk store, drill the top and put an air chuck on it, drill the side near the bottom and put an oil line fitting to match one of your oil lines, fill it up with oil and apply 10 PSI of regulated air to the air line fitting. It will pump the oil into the engine just nicely.

    Stop before you run out of oil, and watch out for overfilling the engine - drain it out before you start it up or the sump may be overfull.

    You can tap into the oil pressure sending galley and leave the remote lines intact.

    Default Sending galley

    If you supply oil through the sender tap, make sure the area around the opening is clean before you remove the sender, then make sure there is no debris or sealant on the threads of the port.

    Default easier approach

    It sounds like the engine was well prepared for storage. I would just:
    - pull the plugs
    - squirt in a couple of drops of motor oil in the cylinders (drops only!)
    - turn it over by hand or wrench - is it as free as you would expect? Then continue...
    - fill the sump as normal
    - leave the carb off the engine, leave the plugs out
    - turn it over with the starter for 10 seconds or so at a time
    - repeat until you've turned it over for 30 seconds or so with oil pressure reading on the gauge (it'll be low of course)

    You should have oil where you need it at that point.
