    Default Sebring FF Winternationals

    JR2 is back.

... with a Kent. Quoting John, "I'm not running a Honda in a SCCA event until SCCA corrects the restrictor size." as he went off and went 3 seconds faster with his Kent than he could do with his Honda.

JR2 was on the pole. Got jammed up in FM traffic at the start. Benson was in the lead for a few laps as John reeled him in. After John got back by, Benson's RR suspension failed in a big way (it is Sebring afterall).

John went on to win. The race had two double-yellow periods.

    Sean,
I've been kicking my butt for not bringing the Reynard down. Beautiful weather. Good sized fields.
    Maybe two many black-alls, etc.

    Huge SRF field. 60?
Even huger SM field, looks like I-285 at 5:30 in the afternoon.

    Jim,

Sebring is a bear of a place to get photos. Especially if there is bright sun and no clouds. Janice just got one of the camera bodies back from the Nikon repair shop.
So we thought we would test it. So far, we are'nt happy with any of the shots. it may be time to retire this camera body. They just may not do well at shooting 75,000 frames per season for over 3 seasons.

But... we are at a race track. It is sunny. The tempertures are wonderful. And there are large fields of cars. Who cares if the photos are screwed...

Thanks for the pictures. Hearing about the races in warmer weather help those of us in the wintery north keep out spirits up.

That's too bad (because the Honda camp will not have JR's input for comparison), but understandable. Can't blame a guy for wanting the best options while chasing a championship.

Does JR have two FF's? One with a Ford and one with a Honda?

Were there any Honda FF's there?

    Sunday:
    JR2 again.
    Benson 2nd.
    Goughary 3rd.

Jason had what looked like a mechanical failure in the braking zone for the safety-pin. Pretty hard hit on the nose.

Same with Benson's DB1. As the left front is working for grip, the right front is spending its time bouncing on the gators.

Both Benson and Connery benefited from Gibby's magical touch on my shocks. The changes he made to mine made all the difference, unfreakin believable. Gibster is the man!

I'll sneak this shot into the FF thread. Since he once was a damn good FF driver. Did the power get to his head?

I'm hoping Jeremy can laugh it off after Sunday's comeback. I'm sure there was much ribbing under the Swan tent Saturday afternoon.

Jeremy told me the FA car was "like cocaine." I'm not sure he is missing the DB6.

Frog, JT stopped missing the DB6 about two seconds after the first session in the FA at this years Sprints.

    I tried to warn him!

BTW: Great and very rare pic you got. In 16 years I have only seen JT spin a car two other times. I was sitting in the passenger seat for one of them!

Saturday night... we all go off to the bar at Chateau Elan. All except JR2 and Gibby. Gibby shows up about 11:30 just a smiling.

Next morning, after qualifying, John is raving about how the car just seems to lean into the corners...

Something about a new "opposite roll" suspension Gib has designed. Shocks my ass. Notice how the tail stays level. Some kind of trickery goin' on.

Folks stood around in impound just staring at the car, but nobody protested. It will be interesting to see if it gets through Homestead unprotested.

    Default Mechanical failure .....

Mechanical failure on the left front at initial brake point at the fastest point approaching the hairpin ("safety pin") caused a immediate 90 to the left head-on into the non-tire/all steel portion guardrail. Very big escape - all those "experts" questioning the mandate and effectiveness of a hans should email Jason ---

Nice photoshop - didn't know you could make photos trapezoidal, or, as Jim said, is that the effect of the bad camera rebuild...

    Default Tuned mass Dampers?

Note the bulge in the engine cover in those photos moves from side to side. Probably a lump of tungsten and clever slider mechanism at play
