    Default New FST under construction.

Been waiting long enough. The like new XTC that we have listed for sale will no longer be an FV. http://sracing.com/ForSale/forsale.htm This week it should start its rebirth as an FST. Add it to the list.

Day 1. The front beam is off and front of the frame is being converted for the Ball joint beam. The BJ beam has been prepped. It will be outboard shocks to save some time and engineering.

We are going to extend the rear section of chassis about 1 3/4". The battery will be moved from it's existing spot in front of the engine to a side pod (like the Citation) This will give us plenty of dry sump tank room. Most of the front end, aside from glass should be done tommorow. I will get some pics as it moves along. I will also keep a running tab of retail costs.

Any plans to reinforce the leading arms? Larry has always seemed somewhat dubious about the strength for an FST when I discussed it with him.

    Jim,

I've got a nice used rectangular dry sump tank from my Evo that I could contribute to the project.

Matt, No. We have looked at it, but not made a decision ot it yet.

Bill, Is it one we built? Dimensions? We may use it, but our XTC resevoir area will be quite a bit different than the EVO's is.

Is this because of a higher level of rear braking?

    Brian,

Yes, apparently. We saw some flexing on the original EVO's, and actually broke one on a Jacer (not sure the Jacer issue was for the same reason). With the tires we use we didn't think this was going to be anymore of an issue than with FV, but apparently it can be.

The EVO's now all have twin rods so that is fixed. There are other conversions running with single rods and no problems I am aware of. The Citation and XTC have some pretty beefy rods, so I am hoping for no problems.

    Default Dry Sump Tank

    Jim,

Yes, it is one of the two you built me. Here are the specs: 24" tall x 5 1/2" wide x 3" deep. Low time, only used on the weekends

    Brian,

Most of us have been out of a vee for too long and can't remember FV braking caracteristics, but every time we get an FV driver to "test" a car, one of the first comments is how much better an FST stops. I think if FV brakes are properly adjusted and everything in good working order, the brakes on the two classes are pretty close to the same. However, proper adjustment and "tuning" of FV brakes is a fine art that is only taught in the school of hard knocks. FST disc brakes, just bolt them on and go. No learning curve.

    Default maybe change your phrasing??

    How about:

Just bolt them on and STOP!

    Another topic:

If Jim doesn't want your dry sump tank, I am interested in purchasing it (after I verify that it will fit somewhere in my Caracal chassis)

How much do you want for it?

Default XTC is now a FST.

Cooling duct work, some more glass and plumbing and it will be done. No bump steer!

The sump tank fits down a bit lower than shown in this pic. It's not mounted yet.

I like the rack. Is the clutch master going to fit back into the stock location?

    Question:

Since the Citation steering is complicated enough, why not stick with the VW box or on the other hand, why not move it over the drivers ankles and eliminate all those pieces?

Not real complicated. Gives you more room and almost 0 bump steer. And since it was an XTC (Citation front end) we had all the parts. And you save a couple lbs. Not that it is a big deal in FST.

    Chris,

What Jim said plus there is no comparison between a rack and a VW steering box, the rack is vastly superior in feel and function.

    Default XTC 4-1 Formula First

    Jim,

Any new photos of progress on the XTC conversion? With the "hot topic" of rack location and bump steer, it might be interesting to show off a little more of the rack powered Citation steering system you guys did. Rumor has it that a certain legal eagle living behind the cheese curtain could possibly be purchasing one of your past Citation FV's to convert it into an FST.
