    Default Oil Pressure

I have a Wet sump system that reads around .5 on my data system at idle but immediately jumps up to 25-30 when you blip the throttle. When the car is being driven it seems fine. I'm wondering why it does that? does that sound normal? what is a typical pressure at idle and at speed using a wet sump?

    Default Bottom line is

these things make very little OP @ idle.
Remember that the oil pump is gear driven off the back of the clutch basket (GSXR).
The higher the RPM, the more pressure (to a point).
It's kind of scary at first, but you are not alone.

I don't think it makes much difference wet vs. dry sump because in both examples the engines internal oil pump is lubing the engine.
It's just that in a dry sump application that's ALL it's doing...

    Thanks Glenn,
what range should the OP be at speed?

    John Paul,

Turn up your idle speed a few hundred rpm. The oil pressure will not look as bad.

Default Oil pressure for wet sump GSXR

You should see between 30-50 PSI at speed (dependent on temps). I've run 5 different engines now all with WET SUMPS. I've never had an engine failure.

Big thing to watch for is under braking. If your data is showing dips that go below 20 PSI you have a problem....and I recommend you go no further.

You should also see no less than 25 PSI in high G loaded cornering.

I've run low mile engines and high mile engines and they ALL read 5 PSI or less at idle when I return to the pits after a session. Some time back I talked to Mark Jaremko and Geo. Dean about this....they both agreed it was totally normal so I don't even pay attention to it.

    Default OP

I routinely see 65 psi OP hot, at speed w/ the BRD dry sump, probably the reason I like it so much.
Oil brand/weight can make a huge difference also.
I first started out on Mobil1 Synth 10w/40 and would only see 22 psi.
I changed it out to Redline 15w/40 Synth and more than doubled the OP to 46, same day, temps everything.
I'll be the first to admit that sounds crazy, but it was my experience...
