We ran the Heat Wave National, on August 1st, at Gateway in St. Louis
this past weekend. This was the second time out in our Honda powered
Van Diemen, and Dan finished 2nd to David Livingston, with Frank
Chambers coming in third. We know the Honda’s are down on power from
looking at the dyno sheets, but here is some hard data on how much
time that is worth at a pretty fast 1.65 mile track.
Sector time is from the beginning of Nascar turn three, to thirty
yards before where the cars dive off the banking for turn 1. This is
the main "straightaway" at this track.
David Livingston (Ivey Kent): 17.2 seconds
Dan Layton (Quicksilver Honda): 18.5 seconds
Frank Chambers (Quantum Kent): 17.8 seconds
Data was gathered from multiple unimpeded laps without any draft.
David and Dan had the same corner sector times, while Frank was slower
and later on the gas coming onto the banking. This shows the main
straight at Gateway, but don’t forget there also are several short
straights in the infield.
Race Fastest Lap Times:
Livingston: 1:04.763
Layton: 1:06.007
Frank Chambers: 1:06.692
