    Hi Everyone,
I'm looking to purchase either a FC or a Spec Miata to race at the regional level of the SCCA. I would like some opinions from the FC fans.

FC or CFC participation at SCCA/SARRC regional events is low so the competition isn't too high. Winning second place out of 2 competitors isn't that much fun. But, the car is dynamite to drive and the people are great.

SM has a lot of participation, sometimes too much and tempers can flare. So the class can be trying at times. However, SM is less expensive to race and the large participation means that you can easily find parts and help.

    Thanks,
    One-The-Fence

You should consider what you really like to do in racing. If you just want to compete and race people, than a big class of equal cars should be the right thing to do.

If you are a little bit technical and like the challenge of getting your piece of equipment performing better than the rest, a formula car would suit you better.

As to operating cost, you are correct. Running a formula car is more expensive than the SM. However, there is the risk cost to consider. What does it cost when things go wrong.

I have always preferred to race purpose built race equipment because they are generally safer and a lot easier to maintain. A formula car is designed to have the corners replaced between races while a street car with a wounded corner is probably done for the day (or forever).

Good luck with what ever you choose.

    John,
Thanks for the good advice to ponder while I sit on the fence.
