Default Racing at Summit Point Julu 10/11

You guys missed out on a great weekend of racing. It rained Friday night, but Saturday and Sunday were beautiful sunny days with a dry track.

By the way, does anyone have suggested gears for a Pinto FC for the NJMP Lightning track? We have not raced on that track yet.

    Try these: 15/30 , 17/28 , 20/27 , 25/27

    Len:

Why is 1st gear so low? Also, what direction do the cars go (clockwise or counterclockwise)?

    Thanks Lindsey.

Why was your suggested 1st gear so low? The track map does not seem to indicate a sharp hair pin.

I have never driven here in F2000 but I believe you run this track as a 3 speed and only use first for the start and leaving the pits.

The track is alot like Lime Rock. High speed, momentum track, smooth, not too much elivation, and you run it as a 3 speed.

I ran here in Bertil Roos and we ran it as a 3 speed with those things as well. I actually have the track record there still, will be there doing some more F1000 testing and driver coaching. If anybody is interested they can PM me.

    Ian:
the only time I ran there was in 2008 (the first event at Lightning) - I ran Summit Point gears and they were pretty close. The only problem I remember having was running out of gear on the front straight going into T1 (bout 7000 rpm or so).. I might have gone into 1st gear in the left hander after the bridge (cant remember)..
ANd as stated earlier, it is clockwise..

Jonathan: what kind of times were you running there?

When I was there in roos if I remeber correctly it was like 1.21's. They put in a chicane on the front straight that was 2nd gear b/c the cars were hitting the rev limiter in 4th about half way through otherwise. Probably would do like 1.17-18's without the chicane.

    Jonathan,
We met at NJMP the first day you ran your yellow FC.

What F1000 chassis do you have?

Hi Ivan, I remeber meeting you when we were on the Thunderbolt course. I am still running in F2000 full time and doing some testing in F1000.

Philly Motorsports has built a car and is bringing me in to do the initial testing and development.

I don't want anybody to think I am saying this because I am bias but if your looking at buying a car, buying one of Sal's F1000 is the best choice. The cars are sooo much fun. They weigh 230 lbs lighter then F2000, +30-35 horsepower and 6 speed no lift shift paddle shifters. All motor problems with people blowing them up has been solved as well so you don't have to worry about that anymore.

In our first test last weekend at Summit we were flirting with the track record in really hot weather and on really, really old tires. And the track record is set by a Firman which everybody knows is a good car and shows how good Sal's car is.

IS 24:27 likely to be tall enough for front straight for an 85 Reynard FC with something less than spectacular power or aerodynamics? We do not want to be running over 6700 RPM.

    24:27 is good for 127.7 mph at 6800 rpm (assuming 10/31 r/p)
    24:26 is good for 132.6 at 6800.

I was seeing over 7000 with the 24:26 at Lightning on front straight FWIW

    Jonathan - you've got a good memory!

I bought a 2008 Stohr F1000 which I am hoping to race next w/e weekend, but I may have an engine problem with excessive coolant consumption.

I hope to see you there.

Very cool, hopefully you can come out. Will be good to have another FB there exspecially an established chassis such as a stohr to give me and Sal another car to go head to head with and give us that much more of an idea of where the car is at.

    Hi Ambrose.

Yes, Pete has a red one, I have a white one.

Pete is signed up. I have a coolant consumption issue that I am trying to resolve. Doing a leakdown test tonight. Hopefully I will be racing.
