    Default Oil Tank Size

What size oil tanks are people using for dry sump applications? - including the necessary 'air space'. Thx.

As you probably know, it's a challenge to find space in a formula car (compared to like a DSR).

I went with the smaller Pace tank:

As far as I can tell, it has worked well. I run it about 4" from the top. More than that and it spits it out.

Mine is located inside the rear drive housing and holds about 4.5 quarts - filled about 3/5 of the way up. Anything over that and it spits it out.

Rob - does this mean you are only putting in about 3 qts?
Or is that the running level? - how many qts do you put in (from empty)?

What engine and what car? Endurance races or sprints? disposa-engine from a bike, or $30K?

I would, for your BD-engined things, be looking at at least 6 litres of oil capacity in the system including the filter and the cooler and all that, and that again in air space. I have used the 6.5" diameter Pace tank quite happily.

Default Well this is the FB section

so you must be inquiring about a m/c engine dry sump tank.
I run 7.5 quarts in my system, which uses the std RFR tank which is tall and thin, "flaring" out at the bottom for add'l capacity.
Any more and it get puked out to the catch tank.
I suppose I could run more and plumb it to go back into the engine, but 7.5 Q seems to be where this eng/dry sump sys/tank/cooler is happy.

Jesse at BRD told me these systems need 7-8 qts total capacity.

I'm running about 5-6 quarts total - no big oil cooler - am using a much smaller oil/water heat exchanger.
