    Default Collier Auto Museum

I've heard of the Collier Auto Museum in Naples, Florida, but haven't been able to find a contact. I'll be in the area next week, and would like to see it. Can anyone help?

    Thanks,

My understanding is that it is not currently open to the public (use to be). They do apparently offer pre-arranged groups / tours. Not sure if they allow individuals. If you find out more please let us know. I was able to get in about 15 years ago. It was quite spectacular at that time. Would love to go again. David

    Larry:

Dave is correct, they are not open to the public anymore. That is a real shame as they have an amazing collection. Our SCCA region was able to do a tour as a group several years ago, and I will see if I can find a contact.

Here is an website of the "Revs Institute for Automotive Research," which is related to the museum. www.revsinstitute.org

Maybe they can provide a contact for the Museum itself.

Yes the museum is now closed. However they do allow some in for private tours & it is a fantastic museum. I will try to find my contact number as it has been several years since I was there.

    Default Collier and Cunningham

My understanding is that the Collier Museum acquired the contents of the Briggs Cunningham Museum which was in Costa Mesa. I visited it at New Year's at the beginnng of 1967 and the mid 80's and it was fantastic. I was probably the only Purdue student who went to the '67 Rose Bowl (via charter turbo-prop!) and rented a car to go to a car museum. The collection included a Bugatti Royale.

I found out from a contact we have that it is closed for the summer and all the cars are moved uo to the second floor in case there is a hurricane. It opens for private tours in late October.

The Collier Museum is an absolute must see if you get the chance. I had the opportunity to visit in 1992 or 3 with my Father while the museum still had public hours. While seeing the cars was great, there is nothing like watching your dad walk up to a Scarab and recall seeing that car race at Meadowdale in 1958 or the Cunningham C4R running on the streets at Elkhart Lake in 1952.
