Default Hoosier FST: Rounds 3 & 4 at Nelson Ledges

It's still about a month away, but for the past 3 seasons, Nelson Ledges has been our largest entered race so we should get a thread going about what could be our biggest grid of the season. It is possible that we could see 18 FST cars at the event.

Photo of last years Nelson Ledges event with 16 cars.

Let's start with who is going and see where it goes.

The TTS # 26 Car will be present and hopefully the driver will be as well after that abysmal showing @ Blackhawk Farms.

I'll be there in the DDC Racing JS-2 just need to make a few changes to the car and paint it, the flat black at mid-ohio this past weekend was not very pretty. It will be my first time at Nelson, so i will probably be asking for some advice. Can't wait!

    Default Anyone wanting to try?

Its my belief that one of the highly competitive SR cars is still available for rental and I just talked with the track management which runs the friday test day. He told me that the test day is $125 which is a real bargain.

If you don't want to drive to the track you can fly to Cleveland and its just two freeways from the airport to Nelson and I'd guess 50-60 minutes.

The other thing track management told me was the sewer work near the track that complicated things has been completed and all roads are open.

Yep. Engine and trans in. They are now mounting the new tires and will be doing setup this afternoon. (On a jacer since you remove the rear of the car for engine changes, a check of the setup is always required.) I hope to see it up near the front when he learns the track.

Yes. We have one EVO available for rent. (Actually if we get two more customers, I will kick Greg out of his and rent it. )

    Default Good Points

    RGU makes a great point.

I see the FF hard tire issue put forth by Tom Valet, fighting an uphill battle to no avail.
FST has used rock hard Hoosiers from day one. Most of us use one set per season. Those that do bolt on new tires don't go any faster.

If you want to drive a fun, extremely low operational cost ($300 per race average), open wheel car, you owe it to yourself to try this class.

There is nothing better than a race weekend that seems like a vacation.

If interested, Butch Deer's car is available for rental at Nelson. This car just came off a win and a second at the opening rounds at Blackhawk Farms. This car is not a rental car, but if seriously interested in giving FST a try, it is ready.

    Default Big Time

Hot news! Rounds 3 & 4 race entry are up and can be found here:

    http://www.nescca.com/registration/S...0-R-1061-S.pdf

One thing to note, Formula First is Group 5....... and we have our own race group all to ourselves!!! You can't even get that at the Runoffs! Now that should be a motivating factor to get yourself out to Nelson.

based on the on-line we are 8 cars. But since there are a total of only 30 cars overall - we're more than 25% of the car count. Interesting.

I think we (FST) are at 12 cars including mail in entries. As for total race numbers, this event is notorious for late entries (according to FLR). IIRC, that is how it was last year and the whole event ended up with just shy of 100 cars.

    Default announcements

I believe we'll soon have some big announcements and an event sponsor. And to answer your question Bob I think we'll be at 14-15 cars.

I'm planning on releasing all new information this coming weekend.

Track management says that just about all the surrounding roads are now repaired and the only issues are sewer work in the village of Hiram. If you new to Nelson watch out for the speed traps in Hiram--those cops have nothing else to do!

Default Looking for entry # 14

With Rounds 3 & 4 of the Hoosier Formula First Championship just a week away, here is a line up of who will be in the hunt:

    Doug Seim - Mysterian M5.1
    Robert Clark - Campbell Evolution
    George Podgorski - RGU BRD
    Greg Schings - Campbell Evolution
    Randy Shinn - Mysterian M2
    Butch Deer - Campbell Evolution
    Jim Nash - MRC 09
    Bill Bonow - Campbell Evolution
    Jason Steeb - Lynx
    Dave Weitzenhof - Campbell Evolution
    Bob Stack - Patch Adams
    Carl Middelegge Campbell Evolution
    Reece Everard - Jacer V2K2

At the moment, that makes for 13 cars. Jim Schings has a rental car available and I'd bet he would make a great deal for someone interested in this weekend.

If interested in joining the greatest open wheel regional race series on the planet, give Jim Schings a call at:

    SRacing (859) 252-2496

Looks like we'll have another fun and very competitive race weekend.

    Default Nelson FST events

I can’t wait for Friday either. I should be there about 9:30 to get set up. I know that Bill Bonow, Dave Weitzenhof and George Podgorski will test Friday due to their cars being new to them. I expect that all of these cars will get fast really quickly.

    Here are my announcements:

Saturday will be Hoosier Tire appreciation day and it will feature a sea of purple, (my secret). We really appreciate Hoosier’s efforts in bringing us a true 25 heat cycle tire that is also “race tire fun” to drive.

Sunday, round 4 of the series is brought to you by Valco automotive chemicals of Cincinnati Ohio. Each entrant will receive complimentary pack of Valco products. I’m sure that will be well appreciated by all.

So if you are close or even far away, stop by you’ll see great racing, much camaraderie, new faces and a look at the best new small formula class around.

Oh - and the special news for me - I got to put a new battery in the car AND have the truck in the shop for a front end problem! Can't catch a break.

Ah well - see you Saturday.

Great racing and swag? Sounds like an awesome weekend!

Lawyerbob - if you have any way to get to Nelson on Friday do it! We have crew to spare on Friday. It would be terrific to insure your oil system is 110% before qualifying!

If it wasn't a 8 hour drive it might be possible - but even if I leave home at 4:00 AM it's still noon when I get there. And I can't afford another hotel night and the test day, especailly with the unexpected $700 repair bill I got on my truck today. D'oh!

I'll see if there's anything I can do though. Would be good to get there and get situated.

    Default Friday Test Day

Just found out that Nelson will offer a 1/2 day for Friday (not sure of cost yet). I might (MIGHT) be able to head out at about 4:00 AM on Friday and get there in time for the afternoon session - at least get some seat time on the track and make sure we've got the oiling problem under control. Not sure yet since I have to swing it with both offices to be gone all day Friday, but it would be nice get there early and have time to relax Friday night. We'll see

Save me a spot in the paddock! (BTW - where do ya'll normally paddock at Nelson anyway?)

    It's almost time!
