Anybody have results of the FF races from the cat national?
Anybody have results of the FF races from the cat national?
I saw Rubenzer win the second race in front of Cliff Johnson, but I didn't have a chance to see the first race
From memory, as I didn't get a results sheet for Race 2):
Race 1
1. Cliff Johnson 2:24.2
2. Reid Hazleton 2:26.9
3. Marc Blanc 2:26.9
4. Jim Roberts 2:25.7
5. John Grooms 2:26.3
6. Scott Rubenzer 2:25.3
7. Allen Wheatcroft 2:28.7
8. John Butkovich 2:32.1
9. Cliff Drake 2:32.0
10. Dan Johnson 2:35.5
11. John Luxon 2:37.0
12. Alan Murray 2:41.1
(Rubenzer slowed late with apparent engine issues, someone said it sounded like a miss.)
Race 2
1. Rubenzer
2. Cliff Johnson
3. Hazleton
4. Grooms
5. Blanc
6. Wheatcroft
I think I have this right--and not at all sure after that (I know that with one or two laps to go Jim Roberts retired). Everyone was a little faster Sunday.
It was a strange weekend, with rain for practice Friday and fog wiping out qualifying 1 Friday afternoon. The schedule was then adjusted, a single qualifying for grid position for both races, a 10-lap race 1 and a regular 12 lap race 2. Only FF got to run the full 10 laps for race 1, as a bad accident during the second race damaged the tire wall delaying things further and cutting group 2 and all remaining groups on Saturday to 7 laps.
FF/FE qualifying was late due to fog on Saturday morning (we went out first) and we ran the first 2 laps under double yellow, with FE's passing Fords right and left. Sunday's race was in near-perfect conditions, 8:10 AM start under bright sun, cool, dry.
Congratulations to the leaders--especially Reid who got his first (and second) National podiums. I got, on both days, to watch spectacular racing--and a drafting and strategy clinic--led by John Grooms and Jim Roberts in front of me. (I had my best sessions ever at RA, and still couldn't keep up with the fast guys. I was a little better than my personal goals, but with the crowd we've got, it seems that I need to up my goals and game somewhat! I did manage to watch a lot of the race among the lead pack, which is an improvement . . . ) It was nice to see guys from Kansas (Cliff Johnson), Colorado (John Butkovich) and California (Cliff Drake). I believe a good time was had by all--I didn't see a yellow in either race.

I think Johnson had a Farley, or so the sticker would indicate.
