Default Cooper Elan SE Composites Nose

I finally got around to laying up a new nose for my car. The pic shows the old standard nose cone next to the new carbon piece. The new part is a pre-preg carbon/honeycomb composite and slightly longer and lower than the original. As a crash structure it's also lighter than the fiberglass nose and its additional crash box. The front wing pillars will slide up inside the nose which I think neater than the more common recess on the outside.

I'll try and post a pic of it on the car later once I've trimmed it.

Nice. I look forward to seeing pictures of it on the car (or in person at the track?).

I'll bet there are a few VD owners wondering if you'll be offering these for sale.

Seems a shame to paint it!

Unfortunately it's not much use to anyone else as it will only fit an FE car. Of course we can make anything in carbon though!

Nice job. How much farther forward is the front wing going to be mounted.

Hey Ben, I sure would like one for my "FE" . It's beautiful! In my case I would just add the gold pinstripes and show it off.

The front wing will actualy only be a couple of inches further foward, and I'll be able play around with the height as well.

Tom - I think you're right - a nice carbon nose and a gold pin stripe! Gotta be fatser as well

Looks really great. It would be a shame to cover up such nice work. You gotta figure out a way to leave some exposed when painting to match your livry. Is this so much stronger that the crash box is now redundant?

Yes, it's should be stronger than the glass nose and ally crash structure combined. Weight wise there's not much in it actually - maybe a few pounds. I can probably take a little weight out of this one by reducing insert sizes and reducing the plies in some areas.

    Wow!

If you can do work like that, you can come over and hang out in my garage anytime.
