Very unfortunate accident. I had a deer run in front of me in qualifying in Wagon Bend last fall. This is a flat in 4th corner. It was the out lap but still was scary.

Had a deer run beside me down the back straight at Rd Atl at the Runoffs one year. That sucker must have been doing over 60 mph then leaped over the outside 8 ft fence and disappeared. Glad he didn't turn in front of me.

If you ever get the chance to watch a session, go over there. You find out real quick who's flat and who isn't. Minor, Moran, Silver were doing it all the time the other year. I'm sure Chas does. Kris (top fuel) Kaiser has been bugging me that I have to be doing it. It's a confidence thing mainly.
Check your mail, I sent the crash pictures and an extra one.

Deer and Elk are often problems at Pikes Peak and other events for hill climbs.

Nearly tagged a dear last year in one event. First came mom, then the fawn...I gotta slow down, my wife would have never forgiven me.

    Hi Curtis,
Yes, a FV hit a deer at Summit a couple of
years ago. It happened during my first driving
school in the fall. That poor guy had a very
bad weekend for several reasons, but the deer
    was the worst part.

Not to hijack this thread, .. but, .. yes I've been over to
watch you guys go through there and I thought you did it flat, .. but standing at the fence by the flag tub I couldn't
hear who was lifting and who wasn't.

I know most of the FF's where braking cause I could hear
the whine from the drilled rotors, .. Of course Schweitz
wasn't brake as near as I could tell.

I thought with my new car at the first MARRS race I could do
it flat or just a little lift, .. but I hadn't gotten brave enough.

    Thanks for the photos, .. awsome. , .. what's you dog's name???

Oh, back on topic, .. didn't a FV hit a deer at Summit a few

Was Robert OK? Did the visor hold up to the impact? Did it cause him to wreck, or just scare the heck out of him?

A Sports racer[csr?] driver died at Sears Point 10-15 years ago in a collision with a Dear on a practice day. When the car didn't come around they went out and found the car at the side of the track and both the driver an the Dear DOA. No one witnessed the incident. Biggist thing i've hit, well other than another car or some K-wall,was a squirrel. Poor littel critter. I thought he was going to make it but i caught him with my front wing end plate! The front half hit me square in the face and fell in my lap,Yuck. The back half ended up on my hear caliper, cooking. Scarier than that was a Pelicn at Portland I.R. but i missed him-or he missed me-by inches.

As a plug for Lexan visors, I had a piston from a 2 stroke DSR hit me in the center of my visor at Hallet at about 75 mph several years ago. There is a reason for headrests.

Visor had a good sized pick in it and was ruined, but it stayed intact.

While watching a C.A.R.T. race from Toronto [on TV] several years ago I caught a long range view of what looked like a Seagull getting ingested by one of the cars. I called the team on the monday after the race and they were surprised anyone saw it. They didn't know till cleaning up the car after the race. You just never know what can come at you during a race. And Charlie you know it seems DSR's have a lot of stuff dribbilig and flying off of them!

Believe it or not, a bunch of us watched an armadillo get pulled from the radiator of an Atlantic at Moroso during a test day a few years ago...what a mess...

My wife got hit square in the visor by a pidgeon at 100mph at Lime Rock in a Skippy school. She came into the pits covered with blood and feathers almost giving Bruce McGuinnes a heart attack.

To add to this sickening display of violence, a touring car hit a Kangaroo at about 180 kmh in the Bathurst 1000 last Sunday.

Car not so good, out for 8 laps; kangaroo out for longer.

I have a copy of the video to post if someone can let us know how this is done.

Regarding my turkey adventure at Road America...

I was heading into 12 at about 120 mph when I saw this poor creature stroll out onto the track from the woods. There was no time to avoid it so I nailed it with the left front tire and part of the wing. It freakin' vaporized the buzzard, although the left radiator intake was chock full of bones and guts. It collapsed the upper a-arm, bent the wheel and caused a few hours of clean-up. Other guys coming into the corner said that it looked like an oil slick. There were feathers stuck to a lot of other cars. I guess I never did apologize to all the guys who needed to clean their cars up after that. So sorry guys, honestly!
