Default Essential repair manuals for FV?

Hi Gents, What are the essential repair manuals for working on the Vee? There are a number of VW repair books out there ... can anyone spec some out and any other references as well?
    Thanks!

The Haynes 1200cc VW manual is a good one.

The Haynes 1200 is the best for FV, but it is out of print last I checked.

The Haynes 1600 Manual is available and is acceptable.

The best by far is the Type 1 VW Shop manual if you can find one.

Also we have the "Getting Started in FV/FST" manual which covers much of what you need.

There are also plenty of Air Cooled VW books around that give a lot of engine advice. Most are dedicated to aftermarket and 1600 and above engines though.

I got my used Haynes 1200 manual on eBay for $9 shipped, so I would start looking there.

I really like John Muir's VW for the complete idiot. It's very informative and funny as hell.

Yes, this one I have ... it is essential.

I will pick up the Muir book. For the VW shop manual, would that be for Type 1 Bug/Ghia 1961 - 1965 only?

    Kind regards!
