Richard Dziak recorded two wins today @ Sandia Motorsports Park located in Albuqerque, NM. Richard recently joined the Southwest Motorsports (SWMS) group and will race with the new group during the summer and fall months of 2009. SWMS is not affiliated with the SCCA but follows the same rules and criteria of racing programs.
In todays trophy race event Richard started in second position on the grid. Once the green flag dropped Richard took the lead immediately and held the lead for the entire race. The full 1.7 mile road racing track @ Sandia was used for the event.
In the afternoon sprint race on Sandia's short (1.1 mile road racing) track, Richard started from the 3rd position, and took the lead with 2 laps to go, to record his second win of the day.
The Phoenix F1000 ran flawllessly throughout the day. The Phoenix was a hit once again to spectators and other racers, and I couldn't answer enough questions throughout the day on the car. Many people asked about the class and what engine powered the car.
The FK1.07 continues to be a winner, and a blast to drivre. Thanks Dustin Wright and the build team for building such a great race car. The final event of the weekend will take place on May 3rd, using the full track for the SWMS Championship points race
Thanks SWMS for a great day of racing, your hospitality and new friendships. Your organization shows you don't have to be an SCCA racer to enjoy racing. SWMS has several race groups from Student racers, karts, vintage cars, contemporary closed wheel and open wheel formula classes.
