Yes, the Formula Mazdas (new and old version) are rotary powered.

The new "Pro Formula Mazdas" have the 4 cylinder engines.

I disagree. I'm positive that every Pro Mazda race on TV they say that all the cars are powered by the same Renesis motor in the RX8. Every car in Mazda's lineup that begins with an "R" stands for rotary. The FEs on the other hand have the 2.3 Duratec which is a 4 cylinder that comes from the Miata.

Ah, I think you're correct. I guess it's just hard for me to believe my Vintage 83' Ralt/Suzuki FS beat a Pro Formula model with a Renesis motor in the SEDIV series championship a couple of years ago.

all sellers would make it so much easier if they would post some sort of image!

i did a liitle search and conclude that this vehicle is a russell style formula mazda

as noted in other postings there are at least two other formula mazdas!!

like i keep saying...we have too many formula classes that are undersubscribed and hence too thinly competitive fields!

increasing the rungs in the ladder only decreases ones chance of getting to the highest level

anyway the car sounds like a good deal but who knows?

I once owned a 2001 FM. This car is a "standard" FM, not a Russell school car. It has a 13B rotary engine, and seems to have the latest spec shocks, etc. There is no reason that it could not be competitive in the SCCA FM class.

There is only one FM class within the SCCA. The so-called "Pro" Formula Mazda cars can race in SCCA if they choose, but they can not race in the FM class. They can race in FA if they like, but they will not be competitive vs. a top level FA car.

Moses is "the man" for the standard FM's on the west coast if not the entire country. If I were buying one now, I'd buy this one because the car will be in excellent condition and the deal will, on its own, be more than fair. But, here's the bonus: unlike buying from a private seller who's getting out of FM and will never answer your calls, you will benefit from genuine, honest, first class support for the car and you as a driver from that day forward. Pop on over to the FM forum and ask around about Moses and compare deals.

Disclaimer; I have no financial connection to Moses and endorse him entirely on my personal history of being a customrer and knowledge of many others who have as well.

I'd be happy to answer questions or discuss FM racing in Central CA.

It is the new Atlantics that have the Mazda 4 cylinders in them.
