Anyone have any info on the Swift DB4 that Stohrs modified for J.R. Osborne? It's listed as an entry at Thunderhill this weekend.

Lee, Yes that is a better reference name, hence the title change
We put the car on the ground for the first time last weekend at Thunderhill. We had our share of new car issues, but we learned a lot. We're all very excited about racing the car this year. Our next event will be the May race in Portland. Hopefully we can squeeze a couple of test days in before then.

Wow. That's different, and cool. It's fun to look for what still is a DB-4. Not much.
Can we see pictures of the tunnels, from behind?

Russ,
Are you sure that the car has tunnels? From the pics it appears that it may be a flat-bottom design. Wayne, can you comment on this at this stage of your program?
Looks better than the new F1 cars.
I like that rear wing. Good looking car.

I want this!!!!

DB-4 90-045
as in FANTASTIC looking car, Wayne!
But then agian you've gotten us used to that over the last few years.
I like the idea of updating a car like this, maybe turbo 'Busa based V8 power next (Heh heh...).
More pics!
Regards, GC
PS What is the purpose of the (?) on the left side pod, below the kickup, about a foot and a half or so forward of the LR wheel?
I'd swear it was a turbo wastegate outlet, Oops, wishful thinking...

i though I heard that it was basically a "test mule" for some ideas stohr wanted to incorporate into the new club specific FA they were rumored to be designing?
Awww, come on guys, it's so simple. Maybe you need a refresher course. Hey! It's all ball bearings nowadays.
Wayne,
Nice "test-mule." Can you tells us what upgrades were done under the skin. Was the tub re-worked, brake upgrade etc...
I just wanted to answer a few questions. This is in fact a one-off test car. In order to make proper light weight carbon parts, we made high temperature tooling. We will be able to sell body parts if people are interested.
We did many things to the car: New motion ratios front and rear (bellcranks), lowered the rear upper a-arm mounts with new a-arms, resized coolers for sidepod shape, and new homologated roll hoop and cockpit surround. Obviously the bodywork and wings are new. We did a new intake and exhaust system to get them lower in the sidepods. As soon as we get the car back together for our next test, we will take some under skin shots and post them. Thanks for the complements. We have a lot more testing ahead of us. If you're interested in more details, I would be glad to talk by phone. 503-775-1114 or stohr@stohr.com

Gorgeous!!
This is one of the prettiest Atlantics I have ever seen. Looks great in white, I'd bet with a paint and color scheme that accents the beautiful new lines, it would be stunning.
Nice work, guys.

This car looks good and is it in the sho pto see? I want to come and look at this firsthand! I will call on Monday to see if this is possible. I remember talking to you at around Christmas but couldn't make it down from Seattle. How about cockpit shots I seem to remember you saying the cockpit is larger?
Rick
While I'm sure the car has been improved in every possible way with very high quality work, I'm a fan of the original car. This one kinda reminds me of a "ricer" body kit...

Whatever Sean, please just shut your hole. For anyone to be doing anything innovative in the Atlantic class (or any SCCA class for that matter) should be commended, especially in these trying times.
If you don't like it fine, but don't disrespect the guys that have put hundreds of hours into their passion.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
Personally, there are things I like about it and things I don't. No big deal. I am not calling this one ugly, but I've owned some U-G-L-Y cars myself. The best one can do in such cases is keep it clean and "sano". I enter races, not beauty contests. Form follows function.
it's a race car. if these updates make it faster, that is all that really matters.
In this case it is especially true because the car and parts in question are merely a design and engineering exercise intended to make new chassis/car they have in the works even better. If these parts are an improvement over the original and are a more graceful and simpler solution to the problem they are intended to solve, it's a successful design in my book.

J.R. Well in my opinion the car is an innovative approach to updating the Swift DB4. I also know that you will run it to its limit while setting new track records. I think it's one of the most attractive Atlantic cars that I have seen, but what do I know I'm a "Ricer." (whatever that is?)
Geez, you guys are sensitive. Sorry I said anything that was not 100% positive, guess that's the only feedback you want out of anyone's "hole"- if not 100% positive not worthy of a reply??
Wonder if the Stohr FB cars would be doing better if someone early on said something about the lack of aero and all the drag... (or did they...? maybe someone's feelings got hurt and was told to shut their hole).
Maybe I should edit it to say this:
Stohr makes great race cars.
JR is a great driver.

What does that mean or have to do with this post? No one mentioned your wife either.
Post pics of a new car and expect to hear comments, BOTH good and bad. If you don't want the comments (or your ego can't take it) don't post the pics, or maybe say something like I'm very sensitive and only want to hear positive comments please.

In my opinion...
An opinion lacks the ability to be right or wrong.
In my opinion, Sandra Bullock is prettier than Nicole Kidman, and no amount of internet dueling will prove my opinion wrong.
In my opinion, I couldn't give a rat's a$$ regarding the asthetics of a racecar, as long as the stopwatch approves.
And don't even get me started on Elvis versus Sinatra.

I don't think criticism is an issue with anyone, as long as it's constructive. I think the "riceboy" comment was something that would have happened on one of "those" forums where people are only looking to stroke their own egos, and response comments can be rude and crude (and are almost always childish).
I don't think anyone would have had an issue with someone saying that they thought it was ugly or they didn't like it personally.
That's just me, though.
Doug, You hit the nail on the head and said with class! The riceboy, ricer comments bring this down to a different level regardless of my heritage.
