Don't know why the city was surprised - the industry has expected this for a year now.
Sad to see a well-known company like Crane go belly up, but this is what happens when companies lose sight of what they are all about and put their eggs all in one basket. When that basket diesn't deliver...............
What was the basket Crane put it all in? Cams? They made the cams we use in the vintage racing TC, guess I will have to go with the roller cam on the next rebuild. Funny, I can get a roller cam kit for a 1947 MG TC but have to run flat tappets in a FF and worry about oil issues. I need my zinc.
They did not make enough money for their investment banker owners.
Read between the lines
When a big company buys a smaller one like this, they sock the newly acquired company with among other things like corporate fees to pay for the management on the other side of the country, make them pay off the loan that was taken out to buy them and generally make it very difficult to show a profit after all that.
just my 2 cents
