    Default Autocross brake pads.

What pad compounds have you had success with in autocross? I'm looking for the highest friction, highest initial bite pads I can get that work at reasonable autocross temperatures.

I don't know what I have on my F500 right now, but I'm pretty sure it's a high-temp roadrace compound that doesn't provide much friction at low temperatures.

    hawk hps plus

edit... this is what I read on pegasus at least
Black Compound (M): Medium torque compound for grass roots racing. This material was designed to be a good, all purpose low cost racing pad. Recommended for Dirt Circle Track, Dune Buggy and light duty Road Racing applications. Well suited to Club Formula Ford.
HP Plus Compound (N): This unique compound was designed for the serious Autocross racer. Unmatched friction levels when dead cold. Ideal for Solo II.

I haven't used them yet, but Andy Porterfield recommended his R4-1 compound for the disk brake conversion on my SoloVee. They are much pricier than the Hawk HPS+ or Carbotech Bobcats, though.

I'm a fan of just about everything mentioned, but Carbotech is now recommending their AX6 compound for autocrossing a lightweight Mod-type car. I'll let you know how they work.

Why do you need high grip quick bite pads for autocrossing? Tires are usually relatively cool and the surfaces are less than optimum. Plus as you said the pads need to work cold (assuming an F500 isn't very different from many other formula cars). I have been most happy with street compound pads such as Hawk HPS. Even HP Plus were too aggressive and tended to lock inside front tires often compared to HPS or similar.

If you are interested in Hawk or rotors at great prices go to www.raceshopper.com. They are located in NY. Edwin Robinson is the owner and he supports SCCA.
