    Default FF40th SCHEDULE

I am very pleased to be posting the tentative schedule for next summer's FF40th at Road America. With great cooperation from our Milwaukee Region partners, we have a fabulous weekend planned with lots of seat time and three "surprise and delight" special events.

The three race groups (FF, CFF/FF restricted regional, and VFF) each get almost two hours of seat time during the three days. More seat time will be available for those wanting to do the Thursday open test day.

When not on the track, there will be plenty going on to keep us amused: a FF40th group photo op, the FF Parade of Champions, and a FF40th prize drawing and networking event.

The FF40th has been integrated into Milwaukee Region's traditional late July Cat National. The attached .pdf file contains the full schedule. Here are some highlights:

Thursday July 23.......Open test day (details to follow)

Friday July 24...........Practice and qualifying plus FF40th group photo op

Saturday July 25.......Qualifying and VFF race #1 plus FF Parade of Champions and a
FF40th prize drawing and networking event

Sunday July 26.........Morning warmups, FF Parade of Champions, and three races:
FF, CFF/FF restricted regional, and VFF #2

In the next two or three weeks, there will be posts with detailed info re: licensing, chassis eligibility, and log books. This will allow all racers interested in the FF40th plenty of time to make appropriate plans and arrangements.

See everyone at Road America in 242 days.

    Hi,
Could you, or someone, tell me how it will work with the gents from Canada? It is my understanding, and perhaps an ignorant one, that there are many differences in our SCCA cars as compared to theirs. Are we in the same class, all racing for points, and how would one know who is racing for regional points and national points?

    Thanks all,
    Reid

As far as the Ontario Formula Ford Challenge cars (Both CF and FF) they have adopted the SCCA engine regs pretty much to the letter to maintain unity for events such as this. We run on Dunlop treaded tyres only and most will do so at the 40th.

    Default SPEED CHANNEL COVERAGE

I was wondering if anyone ever contacted SPEED. Discovery, HDNET, etc. about coverage of this event. SCCA home office should be working their tail off to get this historic event recorded for play back on some channel. (Although, one network would cut to a rerun just as the lead group of 40+ FORDS are heading up the hill to the ). Even "Art Mann Presents" might be interested in roaming the hills of Road America looking for just the right group of spectators , if you know what I mean. Don't forget to watch or record SPEED January 7th at noon CST for the Formula Ford runoff race from Topeka.

Being a worker I just can't tell you how excited it will be to be at this event! The 40th Anniversary of of FF wow.

Plus it is also a great event peroid. Worker tribute to Brian Redman's Cat, The bloodshot blur of fur. There is also the traditional Cat Box races done at the RA center. Well hope to see everyone there.

    Default Rugby??

    Chris,

maybe we can have the workers play the FF guys in a game of Rugby or something similar. maybe two hours after the track sessions are over when no-one is feeling pain, but there is still some light out.

Looking for something that could become legendary, hence the choice of Rugby over say Chess. Newby FF drivers and Newby workers years hence would have to endure an exagerated version of the story from us old salts.

Hope to see you guys when it all goes down in July. It should be a blast

    Reid,
The National FF racegroup is a straight-up scca national. All cars must meet SCCA GCR and all are racing for national points. Every car diving into 5 on the first lap is racing for the same trophy.

The Regional FF/CFF race is a seperate race group and is a standard scca regional race. Again all cars again must meet GCR. There are two classes in this session, Formula ford and Club formula ford. A national formula ford can enter this race as well.

If I had a DB-1 for example, I can race the National FF group. Then refuel and race the regional FF/CFF race with no changes to the car (as regional and national FF have indentical rules.) CFF cars can do the same, except they are allowed sticky tires racing as a FF.

    Hope that answers some questions.

    Tad

Ben, if you have an SCCA regional License, which successfully completeing the Barber schol makes you eligible for, depending on what car you have there will be a place for you to race. It looks like huge fields so try to get more seat time before July but you will be welcome to participate.

    Default Corrections & Amplifications

This month's SportsCar has a nice article commemorating Formula Ford's 40 years in North America. However, the news blurb on page 15 incorrectly describes the FF40th as a three-day event with a test day on Friday July 24. The .pdf schedule in the first post in this thread is correct...the FF40th will be a three-day event (July 23-24-25) with a track sponsored test day on Thursday July 23.

See everyone at Road America in 128 days.

    Default Test Day

Does anyone have any information on the test day for the event?
    Questions I am thinking of....
Do we have to pre enter?
    Is there a car limit?
How will the run groups be decided? (Im hoping the Fords will have two run groups, praying, keeping my fingers crossed)

Andy, I called the track and pre-registered. $300 for the day. They did not have a schedule yet. I dont know if pre-registration is required, but it couldnt hurt.

    Default just to confirm..

There are two FF/CFF (EWC cars) qualifying sessions? One on Friday and one on Sat?

Did I miss something? I am not complaining, as so far, I'm entered in the CFF regional and the FF70/vintage group which looks to yield me:
    Friday -
    CFF practice
    FF70 practice
    CFF qual 1

    Saturday -
    FF70 qual
    CFF qual 2
    FF70 race 1

    Sunday -
    CFF warm up
    FF70 warm up
    CFF race
    FF70 race 2

Well, there goes this set of tires!

    Default Looks right,

But I think I'd skip the CFF warmup, and do just the FF70 one.

Default Early Entrance to RA on 7/22

I have the track rented for 7/22. I talked to Road America and all of you can enter the track after 2:00pm on 7/22 to get setup.

    Hey Joe,
What's so special about 2pm ? What difference would 12 noon make ? Or 10AM for that matter ?
You can be everyone's hero of the day by letting load in start mid morning.
There will be no interference with the testing going on.
Put yourself in the shoes of a team hauling in from California, or Oregon, or Florida.
Would you be happy waiting for no reason ?
Come on Joe, let teams get in and unloaded and setup for the Thursday test day.
Thanks in advance, I'm betting you'll do the right thing.

    Default Entrance

It has to do with the lunch. I suggested earlier and was told 2.

It was the best I could do, sorry.

    Default NEW SCHEDULE POSTED YESTERDAY

Pardon the all caps. Yesterday they posted a new schedule. Group 1 is split into 1 and 1A. I found it on Milwaukee's website under "Schedule".
