    Default SCCA Director Candidate

Robin Langlotz is running for the SCCA Board of Directors from District 3. He has been a racer for a long, long time and would be just the guy to shake things up in Topeka. Following is the text of a letter he sent out detailing his qualifications.

    Dear SCCA Area 3 Member,

Within the next couple of weeks, you will be receiving a ballot from SCCA National Office to vote for the position of Area 3 Director. As a nominee for this distinguished position, I am seeking your support. I would like to take a few minutes of your time to introduce myself and provide a brief history of my accomplishments with the SCCA. These are accomplishments that I feel qualify me to serve as your Director.

I joined the SCCA and began racing a Formula Vee in 1972. I competed in FV for a couple of years before moving into a C Sports Racer that I designed and built from the ground up. I later moved from the CSR to a sedan, successfully racing in BS/GT2/GT3 for several years. With the introduction of Improved Touring in the early 1980’s, I moved into ITA/ITB, where I still compete with cars that I build and maintain myself.

Over the course of my racing career, I earned several invitations in CSR and GT3 to the national run-offs, finishing as high as 10th place in CSR. In addition to my participation in the run-offs and national events, I have to my credit several regional class championships, SARRC championships and was awarded the National Ford Cup in GT3 in 1985. I even tried my hand at Solo, back “in the day”.

In addition to my participation as a driver, I have volunteered my time and skills to the advancement of the racing and solo programs in Central Florida Region. I served as Regional Executive of CFR from 1984 through 1990, and again from 1992 through 1995. In 2001, the CFR Board of Governors asked me to head up the racing program in CFR as Race Board Chair and I hold that position to this day, heading up the largest and most successful racing program in the SEDIV.

In addition to my participation in CFR, I have served the SEDIV on various committees and am one of the founding fathers’ of both the SARRC and ECR series. I was one of the principal participants involved in the incorporation of the SEDIV and the consolidation of SEDIV programs and finances. For many years, I have attended the Area III Annual Meeting, Regional Executives’ Round Table and the National Convention. I am extremely familiar with the operations and structure of the club at the regional, divisional and national levels.

I was honored by the Central Florida Region with the Region’s Distinguished Service Award in 1987, and inducted into the CFR Hall of Fame in 2003. I was awarded the SEDIV Director’s Award in 2006 and the SEDIV Race Admin Worker of the Year in 2007.

I currently hold a National Competition license, a National Race Administration license and a Divisional Registrar’s license. I have the experience to represent Area 3 on the SCCA Board of Directors and vow to be a loud voice for the Grass Roots Racer. I’d like to see the CLUB racing and solo programs return to their roots, serving all members equally. I’m not afraid to take on the tough tasks and never back down from a fight if the results are best for all membership in Area 3.

I appreciate your support and look forward to serving you as your Director.

    Sincerely,

    Robin Langlotz

Since I am still trying to repair a car that was nearly destroyed at Daytona over a year ago by an UNSAFE race grouping done by Mr. Langlotz, he will not be getting my vote.

doesn't really say what the tough tasks are........rather a lot of credentials. big deal....after a while in the scca, we've all got credentials......so.....not 'where's the beef?'...instead......what's the beef? ....and don't give me that "well we don't want to make waves or a rephrase such as no airing the dirty laundry in public." heck, i don't get together with him in private......so what are the ideas robin brings and about what issues?

Geez, Chuck - you have one car obliterated by a vehicle that's twice your weight and you're still holding that grudge????

I don't have a dog in this hunt, but I have to agree that the 'content' didn't talk about either the issues at hand or any plans to tackle them. Last year in the NorthEast we had an election where one condidtate produced a very convincing position paper, listing many of the challenges facing ALL the SCCA programs along his proposed solutions. As the Webmaster for my Region, I contacted the opponent for a similar position paper, but only recieved an embarassingly short reply (basically "I've been doing similar jobs for a long time"). Sadly, the old guard turned out in force to support 'their guy' and I haven't heard a word (let alone an idea) from him yet.

Jerry W. (Area 2). I had to look it up. Ironically, I remember his competitor's name very well.

In reference to the original topic - a resume shouldn't be the sole reason to elect someone. Attached is the Intro document that Jerry's competitor sent around to all the Region websites (the poor formatting is mine - I had to copy it from a forum & PDF it quickly). To me it was a far more convincing reason to cast my vote in his direction. When I asked the folks in my Region (that were pro-Jerry) what does he intend to do to help the SCCA, the responses were always "He'll be good". While that may be true, I'm not all that confident in election by popularity as the best way to move forward...

    Default I'm Running Too! ;)

The next time the Area 12 director's position is open. I'll state that in my 8 years of racing I helped organize a race team, have served as a representative and am now the Atlanta Region Secretary. Although I have no real experience or have ever been responsible for making tough decisions I think it's time for real change in the SCCA.

I promise to lower your enty fees and provide better insurance for all drivers. I'll end this war in Topeka and bring our drivers home to Mid America. I'll rid this club of it's dependance on race gas in 10 years. I'll subsidize alternative energy like cow flatulence. I'll put 100,000 battery powered race cars on our nations tracks in 5 years. I'll levy a tax on the rich guys with toter homes and stack trailers that drive FA to pay for it all.

I ask that you believe I can change the status quo, just don't ask me how. I'll break partisan logjams and take on seemingly intractable problems just don't ask me for any specifics. I don't have influence over my peers aquired by long term relationships but I think the People of the SCCA are tired of divisive ideological politics at National and are ready for real change.

I call it my Obama strategy and since it's working for him it just might work for me.

Tom, sounds good. And if you start to fall behind and your chances look dim, you can introduce your soccer mom partner and go for the Joe Six Pack crowd, too. :-).

    Tom,

You have my vote on ONE condition. You have to promise SCCA will provide roasted ACORN's at all post race BBQ's.

Excellent idea! If I'm a little of both, how can I lose? To bad neither party can grasp that wisdom.

Hey, do you want to be my campaign manager? The position is currently open.

    Default Who remembers

Yo Jim. A few weeks ago Alan just about twisted my arm off telling me who I should be voting for......and now I've forgotten who that was. [Yup, I'm getting old] My suggestion is before voting, call him and ask who/why. I will. And then I may or may not vote that way.

Who remembers this one? ........ Papoon for President! Not Insane!

You're showing your age. Next you will be regaling us with the exploits of Nick Danger, Third Eye.

Still, 'not insane' might be a credible and achievable goal for a presidential candidate.

    Default WHO

Eye believe it is Lee H. Hill. You may want to check with the Swamy but Lee is a CFR guy. Current racer...bio in last checker. Seems good. MHO. I got my ballots in the mail today. While your reading that checker notice the three lines about the resolution of the Daytona National decision.
