Default Fun at the Fun One

The Fun One at the Glen is definitely one of the best regional events of the year, and everybody should have it on their calendar. This year we had 20 formula fords of all kinds and descriptions and the racing was great. Saturday on the Long Course was a bit of a mess as the track was half wet, half dry, and those who were smart enough to go out on dry tires in qualifying (Steve Maxwell) had a huge advantage. We chose wets and paid the price, and our 7 minute pit stop to change to slicks didnt help matters, as Bill wound up starting 15th. He and Charles Foster raced their way through the field, swapping places several times a lap in the misty rain conditions, but never caught sight of Maxie who ran away with the race from pole. JD King drove a great race to take CF honors.

Sunday on the short course was another story, as the stewards elected not to split the field like last year, and 50+ cars of FF, F5s and FVs mixed it up. Maxwell had the pole by a nose but on the pace lap dropped out when he lost electrics. Bill built up a good lead, but a very slow moving CF clipped his rear tire as he lapped him, causing him to spin. He came into the pits to check for damage, and rejoined way back. He had quite of bit of "red mist" as he drove back through the field, getting back up to second just behind FF winner Charles Foster, Esq., at the finish. Jim MacNicholl took the victory in CF. Congratulations to Charles and Jim for well deserved victories, and I was very happy to see Ed Callo take third in FF as he drove great all weekend.

I just want to say thanks to Jim Little and Harry Martin of Drivers Services for setting the car up for this weekend. They did a great job of helping us get the car sorted out and it really showed as Bill's best lap on Sunday after the spin was 2 seconds faster than the next fastest time. Thanks Jim and Harry!

Thanks for sharing the story and video/pics. Great stuff from a great track.

Nice drive Bill, sometimes a full course caution can really be your friend.

I had a throttle linkage failure while battling for that CF lead with Jim and Joe, great fun up until that point. Only a lap and a half left. Argh...
