    Default "Double Half-National, (or Regional)"

    Technically I'd guess it's a "Double Half-National".

This sounds interesting. It may even result in less incidents during qualifying since the crews won't have all night to rebuild damaged cars.

I like it b/c you could show up in the morning and be out that afternoon. A whole weekend is fun, but it would be much easier if once in a while I could do it in a day.

When we discussed the idea we resolved most of the concerns, but there were two big negatives to the concept:

    1. Logistics of getting folks into the Paddock if they showed up late and out of the Paddock if they wanted to leave early, particularly if they were in "Semi Row". This is not nearly the problem at CMP that it is at Road Atlanta because their Paddock is much more open.

    2. What about the folks that want to do the Test Day and then don't race again until Sunday? Not so much a problem for local people (they can go home and re-arrange their sock drawer on Saturday), but it could be a negative for those from out of town. Atlanta has a number of other attractions (both family-oriented and otherwise), but it'll REALLY be interesting to see how that plays in Greater Lugoff, SC!

Bottom line, would adopting such a format attract more racers than we'd run off? Early indications from discussions with the racers (including Sean, but his situation HAS changed since then) is it was a toss-up, but the event at CMP will provide real-world data for our consideration.

    Default Had a great Day

Living in Orlando, this year there have been several times where I passed on the Saturday at Moroso, leave Sunday at 6 a.m., arrive Moroso trackside a little after 8 a.m., roll out a car that had just been on the scales at home and has the proper amount of gas in it, lower the tire pressures and get dressed, start in the back, pass some people, after impound load up the car and be home by 4:30 in the afternoon.

and no i don't think the entry fee should be lower this way just in case some start to think like that

    Default Lucky Dog Races

    Bruce,

I come from a bicycle racing background. Each weekend featured at least one (usually more than 1 ) "lucky dog" group who would have their entire schedule on day one. As well as one "last dog". We had more groups in bikes but for us in the scca it would work something like this.

let's say there are 8 groups. Group 1 would be the lucky dog and group 8 "last dog".

schedule would look something like this.

    Sat

    Q1 groups 1 thru 7
    Q2 group 1
    Lunch
    Q2 groups 2 thru 7
    Q1 group 8
    Race for group 1

    Sun

    Q2 group 8
Races for group 2 thru 8

As a former track annoucer I can tell you "lucky dog" groups always drew big
Last dog were pretty cool too because you could drive out on sat am knowing you weren't on track until late.
Always wondered why we didn't do something like that in the SCCA.
As an aside the schedule for this years Runoffs almost gets this idea right. The groups that don't run on Monday are scheduled to go out first on tuesday. They should be last on tuesday, Allowing competitors to fly in/arrive return/tech/ ect. on tuesday. As of now being on track at 8am necessitates a monday arrival anyway, defeats the purpose, eliminates the cost savings. Almost........Almost got it right.
