2008 FormulaCar Magazine F500 Challenge Cup, Presented by Hoosier
The 2008 FormulaCar Magazine F500 Challenge Cup Race, Presented by Hoosier is scheduled for September 13 & 14, at the historic Watkins Glen International Race Course, Watkins Glen NY.
Thanks to continued race support from Formula Car Magazine, Hoosier Racing Tires, SUNOCO Race Fuels, Liquid Rack Creations, Glen Motor Inn and Lakewood Vineyards, the sophomore edition will be the premier F500 event in the NorthEast Division.
Joining this year in support of the F500 Challenge are Moore’s Auto Sales, Towanda Pa and Quadrini Racing Enterprises, Mamaroneck NY.
Based on overwhelming driver response from last year race, event organizers Rudolph Brothers Racing & Schultz Racing expect a significant increase in the number of F500 drivers for this year. Last years' race weekend generated a huge amount of class interest and public exposure from the Class & NESCCA web sites. It also recieved several traditional 'print' mentions in Northeast racing publication Auto Area Racing News, SportsCar Magazine and from trophy Cup sponsor Formula Car Magazine. Thanks to both corporate and driver support, the F500 Challenge put out a positive message for this “Fun, Fast Affordable” open wheel class.
More importantly the race uniquely offers equal driver race contingency awards to both Regional Competition Licensed drivers and National Competition Licensed drivers. The Challenge Cup race is a great opportunity for any driver with any number of Regional starts (and no more then two, current year, National races) to be scored & rewarded separately - yet equally - from those drivers with National Points.
The F500 Challenge also offers the diversity and economics of two races on two different tracks in one weekend, along with a chance to meet and socialize with other F500 drivers and crews. Last year's event drew competitors from three different SCCA Divisions, a rare opportunity outside events like the Runoffs or June Sprints.
The F500 Challenge is run in conjunction with the Finger Lakes Region's September Fun One Double at Watkins Glen International. Entry to the F500 Challenge is free and automatic with registration for the Fun One Double. Is the Fun One Double itself a great event? You bet. The ’07 Fun One Double drew over 350 entrants - 67 in the wingless Formula Car Category alone. For '08, discussions have already begun with race organizers to address the anticipated large number of cars in all the OpenWheel Categories.
And if that were not enough incentive, the F500 Challenge is also the 8th & final weekend in the season-long F500 Constrcutor's Series. In 2007 Tom Shaughnessy's strong finish at the F500 Challenege vaulted him to 2nd palce in the overall Constrcutor's Series standings.
Important to competitors, WGI offers acres of paved paddock parking, no hassle SUNOCO Race Fuel sales, plus dedicated paddock, grid workers, safety crews, and a newly constructed Media Center. The track is only minutes away from the historic village of Watkins Glen, birth place of U.S road racing. The area offers plenty of dinning and lodging possibilities. Listed among the village’s rich racing history are the Racers Walk of Fame, The Glen Motor Inn, the Seneca Lodge Bar, and the International Racing Research Center, along with spectacular views of Lake Seneca. F500 drivers can put F500 Challenge Cup right up there with the Runoffs and the June Sprints. Be part of this great weekend of racing!
