    Default 2008 FB Roll Call

With the ARRC now behind us, and the 2008 season looming ahead, I am curious about who will be contesting the class next season.

So, if you plan to run in FB please post as much as you are willing to share here. I am hoping that this thread can serve as a resource for fellow FB competitors, identifying people running similar chassis or engine packages, or geographically nearby. It may also be useful for figuring out where to try to stage some 'feature' FB events in 2008.

    My Info:
Chassis: 1999 Van Diemen with Novakar FB conversion kit
Engine: George Dean prepped 2006 Suzuki GSXR 1000
DAS: AIM Michron Gold XG Log
    Location: Lanexa, Virginia
Events likely to run: SEDIV Nationals, 1-2 NEDIV Nationals, 2008 ARRC

    Regards,
    Sean

(Please forgive the late night post, but I came down with a bad case of bronchitis this week and just woke up in a coughing fit. So, thanks Apexspeed for providing something to do at 2:00 am)

Events likely to run: SEDIV events at interesting tracks.

I'd vote for VIR being one of the premier F1000 races. I'd also like a reason to race at LRP or The Glen again. I've never raced at Road America, and certainly should before I die.

Mike B. - Maybe you can use posts from this thread to update your list on F1000.com (and change it from a Word doc to html? :-)

It would be fantastic if we have a fairly complete list of F1000 participants with email addresses. It could be useful for getting opinions via shotgun email poll rather than relying on people noticing topics on ApexSpeed or other less complete coverage methods.

    Car: 2008 Citation FB
    Engine: 2007 Suzuki GSXR-1000
DAS: TBD probably AiM or CDS
Events:SEDIV Nationals, June Sprints, ARRC. Early in the year, I'm likely to run any event that is close enough, just for the track time.

P.S. Tom Schweitz is building one of the sister cars and doesn't frequent this board. I expect to see him at SEDIV Natioanls, maybe the sprints, and the ARRC.

P.P.S. Road America is an awsome race track, and there may not be any better place in the world at that time of year. I made the 1000 mile tow to Elkhart Lake 5 or 6 times. I'm all for having a big FB event there.

I run the FB Class and the new Phoenix F1000 for pure enjoyment. If I win races fine, if I don't, fine. I look to have fun and enjoy the excitement of driving a high quality, high performance Formula race car. Trying to get another 1/2 second, doesn't interest me too much. My motto has always been safety first, having fun and being somewhat competitive. There can only be one car in first place, and there is always a car that finishes last. Somewhere in between is OK for me.

I have spent alot of $$$$$ for the Phoenix F1000 total turnkey race ready car, and I am not interested in smashing it up trying to be a top notch finisher. It is one of the finest Formula cars I have ever owned. Many racers have underestimated the pure quality of this fine racing machine. There should be many more Phoenix F1K.07's on the tracks.

I love the car, the love the SCCA, Apexspeed and hope to meet some of the other F1000 owners/drivers over time.

Car is disassembled. Pinto was sold. LD200 for sale. We were hoping Jay Novak would have a rear section designed for the earlier Van diemens around now, but he tells me he is working on the 98+ kits and needs an older VD for a design study. So now it's either wait or find other options. I feel the R&D and mechanics of that part of the build is beyond my abilities. If anyone has other options, feel free to PM me or Email akitaa@verizon.net
I went with Kawasaki being a freind is northeast service adviser for Kawi so motors are almost free and he knows them inside and out.
I was planning on spectating the ARRC this year, but my wife had surgery a few days prior.
Hope to be there next year and possibly Pocono, Limerock, Watkins Glen, NH, and new track Thunderbolt here in South Jersey.
I'll update our progress as it comes along.
Hope to be back on track sometime in '08

Engine: 1999 Yamaha R1 (for now)
    DAS: Pi-C and my butt
    Location: Green Bay, WI
Events likely to run: CENDIV Nationals, possibly one GLDIV National (M-O), 2008 ARRC

I would encourage everyone to do a couple things:

    1) Enter as many national events as you can. I really believe that FB has a stronger interest and following and a greater bunch of guys behind it than BP or DP (or whatever the other new classes are called) and we can earn that Runoffs invite for '09. Whether anyone actually wants to go is a discussion for another thread...

    2) Keep June 20-22 clear on your calendar. This is the June Sprints and, as Sean M alluded to, this event will likely be part of a series of "FB Feature Events." I don't know if we'll put together the incentive package that we did for the ARRC, but being there should be incentive enough!

Also, as Russ Mentioned, there is a registry of sorts at www.formula1000.com. If you're willing to provide contact info (e-mail at a minimum), I'll try to keep it up to date. Maybe even make it easier to read. You can also send the contact info to me offline.

Citation F1000 - is it a 2007 or 2008? Don't know. I guess it will depend on when it is homologated.

Yamaha 06 R1 - last of the 5 valve heads

Data: What's that? I will run a stock R1 motorcycle dash

NEDIV Nationals - NHIS, LRP, WGI, MOSPORT and regionals for track time. Might make June Sprints and ARRC.

Engine: 94 Honda CBR 1000 (06 GSXR 1000 probably in March)
    DAS: none

I only have a regional license right now so I'll have to run SED regs. and Memphis regs. until I get a national license. Then I'll run the same places in nats. and regs. First race is the Feb. regioal in Atlanta.

My only reason to run this car is for fun. If my home build car finishes last every time that's fine. I would only like to get faster than myself.

This class is just too cool to pass up.

P.S. please don't wreck it with SIR's, just my opinion.

Thanks again too all that made this class possible.

    Hi Ken,

The plan is to purchase. I'm supplying engine and diff to Stohr to get the ball rolling. I still am going to run DSR as we have got it working pretty good and it will definately be a financial stretch to run both for me. Fortunately, some companies have stepped up to offer some help with parts and I just love these bike powered cars. It's worth the sacrifice to race these things while I can.

    DAS: AiM EVO3
    Location: Minnesota
Events to run: MidAmerica National, Gateway National, Road America National(s), Autobahn National, Brainerd possibly, Blackhawk possibly and ARRC depending on funds.

Not to many of these babies here yet in the midwest so I will probably be alone on the track with the FA and FCs for a while but I'll be having fun. I have a history of making it through all of my first race (or practice session as it was with the DSR) before my car decides to commit suicide so hopefully my venture into F1000 will be different.

I have a lot to learn (setup wise and race craft wise) and mostly am looking to have fun this year racing these babies and meeting a lot of the great folks involved with this series. Car will be here in March, motor will go in and I should be at the first Regional/National at MAM hope to see some of the other folks in the middle of America there.

Some may have seen our post on another thread. We're getting set to mount the wings this week...then comes the fun part building the body. We're about 85% thru the build on our own design. We will be annoucing the name of the car soon. This is a collective effort with chassis engineer Tony Moore and designer / driver Gary Hickman.

$70k for one of 1500 bike made worldwide and you are going to put one in an FB? With the way the rules are headed, I'd hold off on setting that motor in the chassis before the 2008 GCR comes out.

Why not spend the cash on an FA? You can go faster, and go to the Runoffs next year.

    Owner/Driver: Chuck Parsons
    Chassis: Homebuilt.
Engine: Yamaha R1 2001, 2003, and 2005 (been into bikes for years). 2001 currently in
DAC: MyChron, OEM guages, my butt
    Location: Pinellas Park, FL.

Events: SEDIV regionals only, not licensed nor very interested in Nationals. At some point would like to go to Mid-Ohio, VIR.

Note: original plan to convert SE-3 was not "well received" so, long story short, went homebuilt route. Things are going very well and I will be burning fuel and trashing tires by mid year. And will begin posting pics and news on www.pmsacing.net now that I have something to put there. (and once I figure out how to do it. :>) May have a "name that car contest." The winner has to do the development driving...

Whether or not he's blowing smoke, the 2008 GCR is out and IMO the rules will probably stay as they are at least until 2009. Changing these issues is like turning an aircraft carrier - it takes lots of time and planning. Get your proposals together in a cogent form and submit them to the Comp Board for discussion. Whinging and bandying about minor points here does nothing but delay any outcome that might happen. Get the ball rolling first, then fine tune it.

Chuck; it was nice meeting you guys and glad you stopped by. We were getting ready to grid so it was quick but hope to see you again in the paddock with your car soon. I think there will be three or four FB's around here by mid season.

Did you stick around for the race? We got films from both our team cars, FB and FC, and there was some great racing during that Sunday PM race.

I had a constant grin for three days. I admire all the conversion guys a lot, not only are you engineer's, most are great drivers. I mean you know everything about your cars. I am just clueless mechanically - and too old to learn now.

Bill, the pleasure was all mine. thank you for the opportunity to get up close and personal with you, the crew, and the car at such an in-opportune time! I owe you Craig, et al a for taking time out for me, especially after the call to grid.
I was extremly impressed that you can lift the front of the Stohr off the ground by the nose, and nothing broke. Didn't need a chiropractor or a new nose! Very well built car and excellent factory support. You guys have set the bar pretty high.

    Ed:

So nice to hear that you are building an FB......it's an awesome ride. I love my new Phoenix F1000 and have yet had the opportunity to debut the car in the RMD SCCA......but have so in Phoenix with 3 races and 3 open track days at ArroyoSecoRaceway. I am sure you will love the ride. Its the best ever for me, advancing from FF, to FC and now FB. Can't wait to see your ride and have another FB in the division. We will have 3 FB's in our little Pan Am Region by June of 2008.

Sounds like you will be going all out with Nationals, Sprints and ARRC. Very good.

    It's getting very exciting.

Did you sell the Lola CF's?
