Correct on who they are.
They hold unique distinctions.
anybody.....anybody... Bueller??........Rand?
Farina was the first Formula 1 champ and Ascari was the first driver to win consecutive championships. Ascari was also the only European driver to compete in the Indy 500 in the 11 years that it was on the World Championship schedule when he ran a Ferrari in 1952.
Okay, it's hard to believe but, my FIRST racing helmet was painted just like the driver on the left! And yes, it was a legal helmet...
Can you name these two world class drivers and the track. Although the helmets were less colorful in this era, you still knew which head was inside just by the style and the way they held their head in the car.

Good call Bob!
I take a stab at this next one...
Michael Hawthorn
Luigi Musso
hmmm maybe, Luigi Villoresi
Would not the nose colors indicate Great Britain and France?

So I am guessing Luigi Musso and Peter Collins.
If Charles is right about the livery, then it might be Trintignant in the 801 on the left.
The names are here.. good start but not together correctly. I know many here have a tough time with European tracks but that view should make it a snap!
It's on what would be considered the 'back half' coming down out of the hill sectioin not too far from the pits. It's were (although not pictured) Fangio drove the greatest race of the 20th Century. And don't give me that Shuey did better stuff. He wasn't/isn't

OK, I get it now.
Hawthorn and Collins,
I assume it is the 'Ring where they finished 2/3 to Fangio in 1957 in the 801's.
Charles keen eye might also have been pretty good as it appears Trintignant's last ride with the factory was in the previous race, so maybe the livery didn't get changed in time for the start.
OK .. Forensics time

Hmmmm. How about '66 Belgian GP (Spa of course), BRM and Stewart.
Ben
So, it sure looks like a P261 BRM.
I think it was Jackie Stewart's famous Spa crash brought on by a sudden cloud burst. Spa is famous for these, as depicted in the great movie Grand Prix. In fact, in the movie the crash site looks very much like this one, the difference in the movie is the Ferrari of Yves Montand is the car involved in the crash. The movie did include a bunch of fairly recent, for the time, F1 events all mashed together with the names changed to protect the innocent.
I think this crash was the infamous race where JS was trapped in his car and the safety workers could not free him, at least in the time he felt was adequate. After this incident, I think he had his own crash crew travel with him. The rain probably saved his life as one of the more gruesome ways to go in racing in these days was to be trapped in a car and have it catch fire. Reportedly JS's car was leaking gas all over the place the whole time safety workers were trying to free him.
At least, that is my guess.
Oops, Brands, good go.
Very good guessing. In fact, they were filming Grand Prix during this race. When Sir Jackie saw a helicopter overhead, he first thought the safety crew was coming to his rescue. Wrong - it was the film crew for the movie. When they finally got him in an ambulance, the driver actually got lost trying to find the hospital. That was enough for Stewart. That and the deaths of more & more friends and teammates to follow. JYS wasn't very popular for his safety crusade, even with some drivers. But he stuck to his guns. He is the only motorsports person to recieve the once coveted Sportsman of the Year award from Sports Illustrated magazine when that publication actually covered everything and cared about it. 1973 - after he retired alive and with all his fingers and toes. 27 for 99 when you had 2 chances of 5 getting killed. Not bad.

Thanks jg, great stuff.
It is sad when you consider how many great drivers of the time would not wear safety belts as they wanted to be "thrown clear" of the car. Everytime I see one of those "tribute" videos where half the guys die in a burning hulk while hapless safety crew run around in circles trying to decide what they should do next, it is so sad.
Man, we are really lucky these days. Think I will go out next week and buy a HANS.
WOW this is moving fast. Yes you guys got mine but I missed all the guess's on the crash.
Okay here's a really simple one after that wreck toughy.
He did the ULTIMATE guy thing on dare from a still well known driver. He drove his rental car into the motel swimming pool. However on the redeaming side, on his way to fame he was a 2 time SCCA runoffs champion.

Why are all these beer kings named Augustus?
Augie's swimming pool story is one of many racing stories that were fictionalized and included in "Stroker Ace". The book was a lot better than the movie.
jg
Fictional you say? Hmmm.. what's this car doing at the bottom of the pool???

Jo "Seppi" Siffert.
He was one of those guys that died a gruesome death in a burning car, some years later at Brands Hatch.
Siffert in the Rob Walker Racing Cooper-Maserati T81
OK, helmet recognition time. A hint. He is the only driver to qualify for each of his GP starts in a different chassis.

Don't need google when you post a photo without changing the name of it. Right click, properties, go to F1 site, done.

Okay here's one. Gotta think closed wheel for a while.
Front car, the driver? SEVENTY ONE career victory's and almost unknown And to think, when he began his short career, some competitors tried to have his license revoked because of a physical impairment!

Archie Scott Brown ... Lister Jaguar
For an inspiring story, read 'Archie and the Listers' by (?) Edwards. Scott Brown overcame physical handicaps and achieved great success in the Lister marque, before dying a terrible death at Spa.

Rick & John, thanks, great stuff.
I was lucky enough to be driven around Silverstone in a Lister Jag when I was 14 years old. Just wonderfull. Wish I could remember the drivers name - he was a famous bike racer in the 70's. It'll come to me!
Does anyone have a good source for poster size prints of these types of artwork?
