    Default Drive Chain Lubrication

With the arrival of the new Phoenix.....have question...

What chain lubrication is recommended for the F1000 cars?

How often do you lube the chain?

Do you have any specific brand name of chain lube?

Is any product better than others?

    Thanks, I appreciate the info.

I use "Chain Wax", and I apply it every day. It does not spray all over the place like lots of lubricants do.

University of Florida SAE uses their Royal Purple Sponsored Chain Wax/Lube.

and I use WD-40 on my dirt bike because i pressure wash the thing clean and is cheaper to reaply time and again.

I don't see that big of a performance difference between these two applications as long as it is visually inspected regularly.

but then again they both arn't f1000s...

both applications are lubed before running and cleaned after use then reapplied before storage. (note: do NOT use brake clean on O-ring chains, it dries out the rubber)

    Default lube

WD-40 is way too light to use in this application or any chain for that matter, it's really only good as a penetrating lubticant. I always liked PJ1 Blue Label. It stays on the chain reasonably well and lasts for a good amount of time.

    Sean:

What brand of chain wax are you using?

I have read allot of good comments on White Lightening.

Has anyone ever used this brand?

    Default Lubeage

It's best to lube the chain when it is warm, right after it has been run. This allows the lube to penetrate better. Once it's penetrated, it's resistance to flying off is reduced.
Allways wipe off excess lube. Coating the outside of the chain does nothing but attract dirt/grit.
O ring chains have a lube sealed inside. By applying chain lube you are effectively keeping the outside from rusting (for the most part).
I use WD40 sprayed all over to keep the chain clean, and wipe off excess.
BTW, WD40 is an excellent moisture remover (WD = water displacement), but is pretty poor at lubing stuff we deal with: pedal pivots, cables, chains. It is however the bomb diggity for folding pantry doors!!
Lastly I use some lube and apply it correctly: Right at the 6 O'clock position of the rear sprocket (inside and outside). This will allow it to be forced into the chain, as opposed to being flung off if applied on the outside of the chain run.
Oh yeah, never TIGHTEN the chain. Only ADJUST it correctly.
Cheers and good on ya w/ that new ride,
    GC

PS - If you guys need a good penetrating lube (rusted bits) BG "In Force" or PB Blaster are the industry standards...
