I apologise that this is not really F1000 related but I thought you guys would be the most likely to be able to help me.

My basic question is "What is the best size for the centrifuge in an oil reservoir - to separate the air from the oil?"

I need to make a new one for a project and the ones I have available to me for reference are all totally different! - see http://www.flickr.com/photos/1058679...7601089787809/

My Ralt tank is 8" diam
My March tank is rectangular but has a 2" chimney which acts as the centrifuge.
My vintage Lola tank is also rectangular but has no centrifuge at all - the return oil simply squirts out of about 6 small holes at an angle to the inside face of the tank.
My later Lola has the centrifuge built into the scavenge pump - and is about 4" diam.

They all seem to work but what is the best size to chose?

If you were making a tank what size would you chose?

Or maybe I should make a separate centrifuge (like a water swirl pot) and simply plumb this into the return line.

Thx in advance - Derek
