    Default "waxy" oil?

While pulling my oil pan to fix a leak, I noticed a congealed "skin" on the oil in the pan, and in little stalagtites hanging from the bearing caps. I have just switched to redline oil, so there is some mobil-1 mixed with it. Has anyone ever seen this? Is it normal for redline when cold, 50 deg., or is it from mixing oils?
    Thanks,
    Steve

    Default Waxy oil

My first thought is water in the oil, either through a water leak/crack/head gasket, etc, or quite probably condensation. It's not particularly normal.

Were you using some other additives to your oil before?

No additives, and it's not water. I've seen water before, and it's not that milky color and texture. Unless from condensation where it doesn't get frothed up. It seemed to mix back in, and was still slick, not like sludge I've seen in some street engines. It's probably nothing to worry about, but I just found it strange.

    Steve,

Contact Redline (www.redlineoil.com) They have always been very helpful when I've asked inane questions.

    Default Call redline.

I have seen a quart container of their oil do this after sitting for a few years. Kinda spooked me so I use Mobil 1 now. But I do like their Gearbox oil and still use that.
