    Default Engine costs

I am considering buying a club car roller. I was wondering what to expect in terms of cost for a competitive engine. Of course I am concerned about performance, but am more concerned in longevity. Does anybody have recomendations for any builders or suppliers out here in CA.
    Thanks!

    Formula Ford or Formula Continental?

    Used engines hover around $4,000.

    New engines around $9,000.

    Refreshes around $3,500.

    Default My personal expernce

My last rebuild of an already competitive FF engine with 20 hours ran just less than $2K not counting freight costs. The report (with the new reduced flywheel weight and Ivey pistons) was that there was minimal wear after 20 hours of use (I regularly use 6500-6800 RPMs).

Next time with 1-2 head refreshings, I would expect to get 25-30 hours of running.

BTW, if you haven't already you should go drop in on Neil Porter in Merced. He's forgotten more about FFs than most people will ever know.

    Default Welcome

    Mike
    Welcome to FF!
If you have already bought one--GREAT! Looking forward to seeing you next season. We have a great group of competitors in the SFR. As stated above, Neil Porter is the man in CA, if not the western US. Any of the drivers would be very glad to help you get started and onto the track. Chuck R and Jon B are just north of you east of Stockton and both have Swifts. And Neil is just a short drive down 99 to Merced.

If you have not purchased a car yet yet, a few points to consider.
    1) It is MUCH cheaper to buy a complete car that to buy a roller unless you have an engine already. 2) Also, if the engine is not in the car, you will find many small PIA pieces need to be acquired. This will require lots of hunting around.
    3) It's also tough to know how things fit without taking them apart first. This is where someone with the same chassis can be a god sent. Don't be afraid to ask for help. I bet most of us have put the cutch in backwards at least once. LOL
