Default 154 entries for the '06 Walter Hayes Trophy

The BRDC held the 6th Walter Hayes Trophy (WHT) at Siverstone on Nov 3, 4, and 5. An amazingly succesful event for FF1600 cars. WHT had 154 entries with Cars from 1968 to 2006 racing together on the track. All ran on treaded spec tires, steel bodied dampers, and no talk of a new engine. You can look at results and times for practice, heats, semi's and finals. Here is the url:

    http://www.ff1600.co.uk

If you take a look at this website, you can see there are 4 regional FF1600 championships in the UK. Plus, historic (pre 1971 chassis) and classic (1972-1981 chassis). FF1600 is experiencing a strong revival in the UK. People are converting Zetec cars back to Kents.

The Brits have plenty alternative formulas just like we do. Yet, club racers are running back to FF1600 because it still represents good value for the money and excellent competition. Food for thought for North American FF1600 racers? I think so.

WOW - After looking at those photos it is pretty clear that FF1600 is healthy in England.

Looks like it did back in the day when we had 70+ FF's at the Sprints the same weekend as an AFFA race. Dave W., you remember how strong FF was back then? Wow, memories are running rampid. Would be nice to see it again.

    Hi guys,

This is exactly what we're trying to do with the CanAm Cup at Mosport. We have the Walter Hayes Trophy as our model and having put the inaugural race in the books with a smaller than expected 20-car turnout, we're looking at doubling the grid size for 2007. A big well-publicized trophy race like this is exactly what FFord racing needs in North America.

Have a look at our coverage here:

    http://www.eformulacarnews.com/news_info.php?n=1537

We've got some big things in store for next year's race and we need the support of the Formula Ford community to make it happen. You can also check out coverage in the new issue of FormulaCar Magazine, which should be landing any time soon.

    RH - FCM
    Take care,

    Default Hayes trophy

...looking at the variety of cars and their ages, it could cause people to think that talent and preparation are more important than the age/design of the car!

The treaded tire and the short track (minimum aero advantage) also helps with keeping the field close.
