This is my baby. Its a 2005 Formula Mazda Sports Racer - one of only about 15 Sport Racer cars built by Star Mazda, but based on a 2002 Formula Mazda chassis (of which there are more than 2000 racing in the United States). The Sports Racer body allows a driver to compete with a single-seater "formula" car against the "tin top" cars and sports cars - providing a major aerodynamic advantage over the rest of the field. Unlike a Radical or other CSR cars, because it is based on the Formula Mazda, parts are incredibly cheap and plentiful.

Power comes from the reliable Mazda 13b Rotary Engine - classed at 1300cc - providing 180hp in standard trim. The engine has 3 events on it - a total of 20 hours of track time. The last engine ran reliably for 400 hours before a burst waterpipe "cooked" the rotors. A replacement engine costs just $5000 and was purchased from Darryl Drummond in Oregon - the supplier and engine builder to Star Mazda.

Since the car is NOT running in a spec class, modifications can easily be performed on the engine - such as Street Porting, Bridge porting - or, for the totally ambitious, Peripheral porting. There also exists a conversion kit from Star Mazda to convert the car to a Renesis RX8 engine - but 250hp from a standard RX7 is more power than most can handle !

The car is for sale only through ebay - literally, whoever bids the highest gets the car ! I started the auction for $1 with no reserve !!!
