If I had $30,000 to spend on a race car, I think I'd buy this. I'm surprised it didn't sell in the last ebay auction. I'm assuming it's F1000 legal, but don't know for sure. Seems to me that a F1000 built by Van Dieman itself is worth $30,000 when a home built approaches that amount and the new cars are going to sell for quite a bit more (admittedly, an assumption on my part).

It's got a Honda 1137cc engine. Therefore not F1000 legal.

    It's back.

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...m=180356217211

Current bid is $27,100 but has not reached the reserve. If I was the seller I'd lower the reserve and sell it. This is like, what, the fourth time it's been up on ebay?

It's a neat car and everything, but I doubt this market will bring big bucks, especially if the buyer wants to run FB and would need to do an expensive engine conversion. It would make a neat FS or track day car, but then the market is even more limited.

There are some issues with these VD 281 cars:

    1) the car is not FB legal due to engine displacement
    2) fitting a new engine is approx. $2500 for ebay 2007 GSXR plus $2K for dry sump plus $3 to 5K for ancillaries (motor mount, headers, oil and water cooling, wiring harness, shift linkage, etc)
    3) open diff
    4) no diffuser

I am saving for a used Stohr with 2007 GSXR so I can accumulate a few spare engines that will just bolt in. Just got a little practice in this afternoon in my shifter kart at NJMP F1 kart track.

    Default Errr, sort of...

    1) It is currently a runner w/ oil and water coolers, shifter and clutch actuation (that most likely could be easily adapted), correct?

    2) I don't think the dif is that big-a-deal, LSD, open, all good.

    3) Run a wet sump pan, and get some headers fab'd up.

    4) Call Devins @ HRP for a difuser.

    5) Make some engine mounts up outta 3/8 aluminum

    6) Run that Bee-otch!

It is a fair guess that you are more mechanically inclined than I am or perhaps have easy access to engineering and fabrication. I can easily install a fresh engine of the same type as was removed, but changing all or most of the ancillaries would be difficult for me.

Default Don't sell yourself short, Iv!

Seriously, if you could swap power plants, I bet you could fab up some mounts.
Hell you might/prolly could even be able to modify the existing ones.
All I'm sayin' is that car could easily be made FB legal.
Pick up a used VD difuser for $3-400, and bust out the hacksaw!

Good God Man - You are afterall located in Greenwich, NJ, correct?

It's true. We're all very different in many ways - mechanical abilities, desires, finances, etc. It's easy to forget that not everyone lives in the same world.

If someone wanted an FB race car but didn't have the ability or money to replace the engine, this car probably wouldn't be a good choice.

On the other hand, there are two of these racing successfully in FB now, so it should be a relatively easy conversion. (I know, easy for one person can be difficult for another ...)

I agree that Jeremy's car would be a much better deal.

I don't know about pipebenders on every corner but I am only 25 minutes away from the New Jersey Motorsports Park!

    Default Again?

This thing has been on Ebay so many times the seller must be going for some kind of record for the number of time's someone listed a car without selling it?
He also has a Pair of older Van Diemen FC's painted up to look like F1 cars

Default I'm 30 minutes away from these cars

If any of you are interested in these cars I'm 30 minutes away from where these cars are kept. I think this guy wants to move this stuff.

The RF96 with the dual front shocks looks like a well maintained car.

The RF281 (F1000 wanna be) is over priced in my opinion. He should have sold it when it hit $27k a few months back. Jeremy Hills car is a way better deal and it's a proven car.

    Default forget about e-bay

[FONT=Arial][SIZE=2]instead of searching for FB cars on e-bay you should have come to WG and watch Jeremy's car in action... this car is getting better and better... jump on it before price starts getting higher and higher

car revs up to 13500 with no problems... steady oil pressure and temps... i've seen it and Jeremy will confirm it

no wonder he set the FB track record at WG... if you wanna dice with factory developed FB's and greatly respected Coop, that's the car to go for... winning? hehe... i'll leave that up to driver's discretion... racing with FA's and DSR's will be just additional fun

also... you'll love technical details (that count) on his car

    Default on Ebay again

This car is for sale again.

I was seriously interested in buying this car last month @ approx $20K but it kept getting bid up to $25K but never hit the reserve.....

I think the 2008 Stohr I just bought is a much better deal.

Tom Beattie has been very quick in his VD281 chassis so these cars obviously have a lot of potential.

Default You did the right thing

Even at 20k it's a marginal deal. I can assure anyone that you'll spend another 8k getting this car up to F1000 eligibilty no matter what others may tell you.

You did the right thing picking up the 08 Stohr...it will hold it's value better and we know they're competitive.

This guy that keeps relisting this car on ebay is a nut...he can't even get the description right.

    Yes you are correct.
I spoke with him on the phone and he was very forthright and friendly but he just was not (IMHO) realistic on the price of the car.

Yea, I was thinking the same thing, Brands. Your car is worth about $49,000, right? And this one on ebay is a little nicer than yours (less mileage). :-).

I hope it sells and someone races it in FB. If the price is reasonable, someone will be very happy with it.

FC is certainly different from FE.

FE originated from a VD 281 chassis which is the basis of these bike-engined cars.
From the rear bulkhead forward, the FE and this car are the same.

Here is a link from VD's site describing this "Spec Formula" car:

    http://www.vandiemen.co.uk/content/specformula.asp

Chassis - Chrome moly steel multi tubular spaceframe chassis extensively braced in the cockpit and footwell areas
Engine - Honda Blackbird 1137cc fuel injected engine giving approx 170h.p.
    Transmission - 6-speed sequentional gearbox
Suspension - Push rod Bilstein dampers operating on wide based oval section wishbones. Upright cast in heat treated aluminium. Adjustable anti-roll bars.
Brakes - 4 pot aluminium callipers with ventilated floating discs. Fully aeroquipped with cockpit adjutable bias
Wheels - 13" diameter OZ aluminium centre lock rims in 8" and 10"
Aerodynamics - Front Wing - Full width aluminium main plane, raised nose, Rear Wing - Aluminium dual element with composite end plates
Fuel system - A 27 litre foam filled cell to FIA/SPEC/FT3 specification
Cockpit - Detachable steering wheel Pi "C" dash instumentation
Bodywork - 9 piece colour impregnated GRP
