    Default Helmet expiry date extension?

Given that so few people put so few miles on their helmets last season, was there ever a thought of extending the Snell 2010 validity through to the end of 2021?

I always thought expiration dates were based on materials getting brittle, breaking down, etc. So, based on that, I wouldn’t expect dates to change.

IIRC, SCCA has always allowed helmets to be valid for 11 years after their Snell date to allow new helmets dated 10 years later to be available. So what you ask is almost certainly already true. See below:

Agreed, but if a helmet sat in a bag indoors all last year, presumably the rate of deterioration could have been much lower?
As I did not stay in a Holiday Inn Express recently, I figured I'd check with others :-)

Thx Dave, but do the guys on site doing tech know this to be true? They're the ones who have to say yes ....

Well, when very few people show with 2020 helmets, they'll have to cancel the weekend. They have only been producing them for a few months.....

See my updated post (#3) - the GCR says it's OK until 12/31/2021.

Exactly. There is always that ONE TI though... So as a competitor, be prepared and have a copy of the GCR available. You should have a current PDF at the track on your laptop or smartphone.
