    Default SCCA Racing at DragonsRidge?

DragonsRidge is the new track slated to open next Spring/Summer in New Kent County. I've been away for several weeks and haven't kept up with progress, but I will check next week when I get home and see if clearing has begun as scheduled. My understanding is that despite its closer proximity to the "seat" of Old Dominion Region (not presently a racing region), DragonsRidge falls within the geographic boundaries of WDC Region. Does anyone know whether either of the regions have plans regarding SCCA sanctioned racing at this track? Seems like now would be the time to start if nothing has been done....I'd be more than willing to assist since it's only 6 miles from my house.

    Eric,
At our open comp meeting this weekend at the track, the issue of racing at other tracks was discussed--see my post on the MARRS thread for details.

As related to DR, yes it does seem to fall within our geo bounderies but last year DR principals approached the region about WDCR racing threre. We feel this is not a "build it and they will come" situation. SP is our home track and is where our infrastructure is located--scales, T&S, safety equipment etc. This does not mean it is out of the question for WDC to put on a race there; the track would have to have some infrastructure: scales, tech shed, T&S and race control facilities etc. I think we are all getting the cart before the horse. If every track that was planned/going to be built etc over the past 20 years actually got built,(in the Mid Atlantic Region) we would have racetracks every ten miles (a bit of an exaggeration but not much). Before we start planning racing at DR lets see a plant that can host a race first. We in the WDCR will monitor their progress and, as always, keep our options open.

Thanks for the informed response, Barry. It makes perfect sense, of course. You can see how I might be overly excited about the prospect of racing so close to home....
