Why did Baden DNF on Sunday?
Craig Jones
Although I didn't see it from our position in the paddock, I was told that there was contact between Beeler and Baden in turn one which left Baden off-track. I'm sure you'll get four different sides of the story, but the results are the same and the corner workers gave their input and the race steward made their decision. That's racing. Maybe it's better that I didn't see it. ;-)
That aside, this was an amazing weekend with some very tight racing. The battles for the lead were extremely exciting and the series looks to have a good head of momentum heading into the new season. The run for the Lamont Cup is on!
We'll have our coverage of the series in the next issue of FormulaCar, which should be on its way to the printer by the end of next week.

Thanks Guys! Rob, how did your weekend go? -Dave
I just wanted to say thank you to everyone who helped make my first weekend racing a FF such a blast. That was the most fun I have had racing in a while! Thank you Steve Beeler for putting the effort into making the EWC what it is. Thank you to all the FF people who introduced themselves, offered advise, and made me feel welcome to be a part of FF, and a big thanks to Jon Adams for all the pointers. I can't wait to do it again.
It was a great pleasure to be on a corner station for you guys last weekend. Excellent racing for the lead, and it seemed like everyone was racing someone else the whole time in little packs of 2-4 cars. Clean racing...A real class act! Big thanks to Steve for pulling this thing together, and to all the drivers participating in keeping formula ford action alive and fun in the Central Division.
I look forward to marshalling for you folks again soon!
-Dennis

Thanks for working the race for us! We all appreciate the volunteers that make our racing possible and safe. I'm glad we could give you a good race. Which corner were you on? I went through most of them sideways so I did not get a good look at anyone until the cool down lap.
I hope to see everyone again at Blackhawk in July.
Brian Duncan<br />Indy Region
Brian:
Yes, I watched you go through sideways alot, but you go sideways fast.
Dennis:
I thought all the corners did a great job of letting us know what was happening
Thanks for your help.
Congratulations to the winners:
Baden, Beeler, and Adams They were really fast, check their times.
Gratten was a great race, but I'll be glad to be back at Blackhawk.
See ya all their.

We'll have all this and perhaps even a little more at EWC Rounds #3 and #4 July 9-10 at Blackhawk Farms Raceway. Many thanks as always to the EWC sponsors for their generous support of Formual Ford 1600 and the series. See everyone at Blackhawk in 37 days!

I do not know what happened in CFF, but according to my on-board video, Adams and I swapped the lead for FF 8 times in Saturday's race before we ran out of laps. On Sunday we only swapped the lead 4 times as the sprinkles came and I drove the front tires off of my car in the late laps trying to stay on John's tail. Overall very exciting.
John, I now know every movement of your rear anti-roll bar now. Thank you for a couple of very clean, safe, and competitive races. It was fun.
Steve, thank you for an incredible series......gmg

Wow, sounds like you guys had a blast.
It was real tough for me to miss this one, being that it was only the 2nd EWC race that I haven't been at since its inception. Missed you guys, and the comaraderie, and the sat nite prize drawings, and of course the associated beers.
Congrats to the CFF fast lappers Baden and Harmison, great times. I don't think anyone is surprised the Mr. Beeler is running right at the front again, congrats on the win Steve. And as far as close racing, with the margin of victory that close in so many races, it sounds just like the previous years.
If my memory serves correct, the previous EWC trends are for car counts to grow significantly during the year, and starting the year with this many should make a huge field for coming races.
The only problem I have is the fact that the East leads West by nearly two to one. I would expect that will change when all you Easterners head over to this side of the Pond, especially since the series is tied TWO-ALL. There are some serious bragging rights here besides the LaMonte Cup. We need ALL the West guys showing up at Blackhawk Farms for the Firecracker on July 9-10.
Hope to join you, and see you all soon.

Did anyone hang around long enough to get a copy of the official race results? If so wanted to know if someone could fax a copy. I know Steve posted the results above, but I would like an official track copy for my race records/archives.
Please contact me via e-mail at marbly@spiff.net and I will get you my fax number.
Also, I know it has been said countless times, however, it can't be said enough, THANKS to Steve for all of your efforts!!

According to MyLaps, John and I swapped the lead 6 times on Sunday, not 4 as previously stated. That makes a total of 14 passes for the lead in 30 laps. Not bad racing!

Wow. This sounds more exciting than the last lap of a 'Runoffs" I once witnessed. I wondered where all the RF98's went to. My son (Jonathon) will be 16 next year, and this sounds like where we are going to put him after this season is over. Karting scares me too much, and I won't have to drive to Florida or the Arctic circle. Keep the reports coming.
What is the schedule for EWC so we can come check it out.
Jon
Brian:
Thanks for the info.
Yes you are right, a little more seat time and we could have gotten a little faster, maybe next year.
Mark
For Jon Horgas and anyone else who is interested, here is the balance of the 2005 FF/CFF East vs West Challenge schedule. All are double regional weekends...
July 9-10 Blackhawk Farms Raceway
August 13-14 Road America
September 10-11 Mid-Ohio
In a separate thread in the "FF: Event, News, Info & Results" topic, Dave Hopple has posted a .pdf file of the EWC "welcome" letter. It has everything one could want to know about the series: schedule, awards, prizes, eligibility, driver and team championship point scales, etc.
If you can't make any EWC weekends this year, Rob Howden is covering the series in FormulaCar Magazine.
See everyone at Blackhawk in 34 days. The early line on the car count over/under remains at 32 cars.

Did anyone notice that the little pins we received in our entry packets said..."Memorial Day Doubie Regional"??? And I thought all of that smoke was coming from my leaking valve cover...
