Just a few notes and conditions about the new forums, as we move forward.
1) We now allow uploading of your photos from your desktop to the board, but lets try to keep the file size reasonable for online viewing. If there are too many abuses of the feature, we may put limits on the uploading. As of now, there are no limits to your uploading, though it is limited to .doc, .txt, pdf and common internet graphic files. If you can, keep the files to 500 pixels wide or smaller. We are working on a thumbnail feature to allow larger images.
2) We will not tolerate any linking of uploaded images to other forums or sites. Generally, this will include avatars, as well. Again, any abuse of this feature, and that will be revoked on a per user basis. We have already seen this occur on our previous avatars in the past. If you want to use them elsewhere, go ahead, but upload them to your own server space.
3) Yes, you can upload and install your own avatars now. Keep it clean, and we won't have any problems. We do reserver the right to remove your avatar if we find it objectionable or in poor taste. Avatars should be 80 pixels wide x 50 pixels high. We have previously also used a 10 pixel transparent band above each existing avatar to keep them from bumping into the user information.
4) We have gone to the effort of developing a General Forum section to cover all of the forums with one simple post. Please do not SPAM the individual sections of the site with the same post to all. The use of the new layout will allow everyone to see the general posts without having to roam through all of the forums on ApexSpeed. If you duplicate posts for no obvious reason but to reach a wider audience, your posts will be removed. This includes the Classifieds, too. If in doubt, post it to the General boards.
5) Ad banners will be returning very soon. They are one of the life-bloods of this site. We are working to install the new PHP software rewquired to embed them into the forums. They will no longer be rotating, but they will change from forum page to forum page. All existing advertisers will be credited for down time while we make the changes.
6) We would highly suggest checking into your user profile settings to make sure everything is as you want it to be. User profiles seem to take a hit in the transition, for some reason, especially signatures. I highly recommend turning on the private messaging feature for the forums, as it is a great way to inter-communicate with other users. Also, make sure your e-mail address is up-to-date. We get a slough of bounced e-mails on a daily basis from users getting e-mail about classified ads or other things, and don't have current e-mail accounts listed.
I'm sure there will be other things popping up, but for now, it's time to sleep. This changeover kicked my ass.
